Being an Instructor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - History typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     To provide students of Mekeel Christian Academy with educational instruction which fosters and improves their academic, social, and physical development. Instruction should be aligned with the New York State Standards, and emphasize Mekeel’s four pillars of respect, hard work, kindness, and presence.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide weekly lesson plans that reflect activities, materials, assessments, and standards utilized throughout the week
    • Implement evidence-based instructional activities that engage the students
    • Daily assesses students on the learning targets/standards in order to meet their needs
    • Works to help students see God's presence and hand as seen throughout History
    • Helps to create learners with the ability to think critically about historical and current events.
    • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional materials based on student needs
    • Ensures that each student is growing
    • Provides a welcoming and loving environment for their students
    • Participates in teacher training opportunities
    • Seeks out opportunities to grow and develop as a teacher
    • Provides students with several opportunities to show achievement in a standard
    • Communicates effectively to coworkers, administration, parents, and students both orally and in written forms
    • Has an open mind and willingness to grow and adapt
    • Cultivates a love for learning and school in students
    • Professionally conducts themselves
    • Follows school code of conduct
    • Daily assessing and changing your teaching strategies based on student needs

    Spiritual Qualifications: An employee of Mekeel Christian Academy must…

    • have come to personal, saving faith in Jesus Christ, know Him as his/her Lord and Savior (John 3:3, 1 Peter 1:23), and seek to live a life consistent with the principles of His Word;
    • accept without verbal or mental reservations the school's Statement of Faith and be committed to upholding it;
    • agree to manifest by daily example the highest Christian virtue serving as a Christian role model (1 Timothy 4:12) both in and out of school to pupils (Luke 6:40), parents, and school employees. This includes, but is not limited to, the refraining from such activities as the use of illicit drugs or misuse of medically prescribed drugs, drunkenness, criminal activity, the use of vulgar and profane language and any sexual misconduct, including, but not limited to, premarital, extramarital, or homosexual activity, and/or sexual harassment;
    • agree to faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school (Hebrews 10:25);
    • have the ability to work harmoniously with others in a group setting in which there is a desired diversity of denominations, opinions, personalities, and experience;
    • express a conviction of God’s calling to become involved in a Christian educational ministry (I Corinthians 7:21-24);
    • be able to work with others in a spirit of love, harmony, and unity (Ephesians 4:1-6); and
    • possess a submissive spirit with respect to God-given authority (Romans 13:1-2; Ephesians 6:5-9).

    Professional Qualifications

    • Full-time teachers shall hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in their areas of teaching from a college or university recognized by the administration. Part-time teachers shall have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in the areas they are teaching. The Headmaster may temporarily waive this requirement if the teacher is implementing a specific written plan approved by the Headmaster to obtain this credential within a two-year period.
    • Teachers shall hold ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) certification in their teaching area. The Headmaster may temporarily waive this requirement if the teacher is implementing a specific, written plan approved by the Headmaster to obtain this credential within a two-year period.
    • Teachers must maintain appropriate ACSI certification as a condition for contract renewal. Teachers are expected to obtain the number of Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) required by ACSI to retain certification and are encouraged to raise the level of their certification at the earliest possible time.
    • A renewable two-year exception to these requirements may be granted by Board approval.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $25,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
