  • Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for Associate (part-time) Industrial Systems/Manufacturing Faculty positions. 

    This position reports to the Dean of Workforce Education and works closely with the Trades and Industry Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
     
    • Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with a full-time faculty member. Teaching assignments are based on college needs and include day, evening, weekend and on or off campus assignments.
      1. Potential courses include
        • AC/DC 
        • PLC/HMI 
        • Electrical installation
        • National Eectric Code
        • Industrial Electrical
        • Automation/Robotics
    • Utilize best practices for teaching, engaging and motivating students to succeed.
    • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule and assist students as needed with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
    • Utilize Canvas, the learning management system at BBCC, to provide students access to course materials and the course gradebook
    • Support students academic success by maintaining regular office hour(s).  Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
    • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.  Adapt to a variety of teaching situations including diverse student abilities and preparedness. 
    • Maintain positive and effective communications with students.
    • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.  Post syllabi quarterly to the Big Bend Portal for each course taught.
    • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
    • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
    • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.
    • Demonstrate, teach, and enforce proper lab techniques and safe work habits and safety rules in the labs.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • An associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. manufacturing, maintenance mechanic, electrical maintenance, etc.) and three years of professional experience.  Work experience and/or industry recognized licensure/certification may be considered in lieu of the education requirement at the discretion of the college.
    • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds. 

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Experience teaching at a community college 
    • Experience implementing innovative teaching/training methods and strategies to improve student/trainee success and retention 
    • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, video conferencing, and learning management systems (LMS)
    • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency

    TEACHING DEMONSTRATION:

    Applicants selected for a final interview may be required to give a short (approximately 10-15 minute) teaching demonstration on a topic selected by the college.   


    COMPENSATION:

    Associate/Part-Time Faculty receive quarterly contracts.  Payment is made on a per credit basis using the structure below.  This position is also eligible to receive high demand funds for the 2023-24 academic year based on the distribution negotiated between BBCC and the BBCC Faculty Association.

     

    Step 1 – Associate Faculty newly employed by BBCC with less than two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience and less than twelve (12) credits taught as the instructor of record.   

    Lecture                       $862.94/credit

    Lab                             $1,403.83/credit

     

    Step 2 – Experienced Associate Faculty with more than two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience and more than twelve (12) credits taught as the instructor of record.  

     

    Lecture                       $880.19/credit

    Lab                             $1,431.91/credit


    Associate/Part-Time Faculty earn sick leave on a pro-rata basis on in-class hours based upon their percent of full-time for all part-time faculty contracts with each academic quarter (fall through spring).

     

    The college provides insurance and retirement benefits in accordance with the applicable statues and regulations governing Washington State employee benefits, funded through the state and in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the College.  The Human Resources Office shall communicate benefit eligibility to all Associate/Part-Time faculty.  


    Retirement savings programs such as tax sheltered annuities, deferred compensation, and other savings programs are available for eligible employees who apply.  

     

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
