    Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO)’s mission is to provide civil legal aid and advocacy to overcome unfairness and injustice, reduce poverty, and increase opportunity. LASCO is the new name for two long-standing legal aid programs, The Legal Aid Society of Columbus and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services, which merged in January 2024. The programs have been affiliated for more than a decade, and this legal merger is just the culmination of many years of collaboration and growing efficiencies between our two direct service programs. 


    LASCO is actively seeking a professional, reliable and dedicated Operations Administrative Assistant to support our growing organization with a high degree of motivation, initiative, sense of urgency and professional demeanor to support the day-to-day work of the organization. They may also work to support other efforts across the organization. 


    The Administrative Assistant will be primarily responsible for providing administrative and technical assistance to the Operations team and must exercise independent judgment, communicate clearly and thoughtfully, and support organizational progress.

    You Will:

    • Serve as primary administrative support for the daily work needs and operations functions primarily in the Columbus office, but also across the organization 
    • Perform administrative tasks including opening and reviewing client hard files, opening and reviewing client electronic cases, completing funder compliance paperwork and other related duties
    • Collect, organize and manage client trust and petty cash for the Columbus practice groups
    • Be responsible for some general office work including incoming/outgoing mail, making copies, sending client information, reception duties, and other similar tasks
    • Coordinate, order and organize office supplies, as needed
    • Assist and support attorneys with secretarial tasks and duties, including but not limited to drafting correspondence to clients, closing letters, no contact letters and other routine communications 
    • Support the review and collection of data for grant compliance requirements 
    • Enter data in the case management system and contribute to required reporting for compliance purposes  
    • Support and collaborate with staff, partners and other related parties to help achieve goals
    • Periodically support the organization through answering phone calls, greeting guests, interacting with vendors and clients, and maintaining a welcoming office environment 

    Requirements

    You Have:

    • A positive attitude, go-getter mindset and drive to do things well 
    • Ability to anticipate needs and navigate problems with a creative, practical approach toward reaching successful resolution  
    • Ability to prioritize workload to manage time and tasks in a dynamic environment  
    • Proficient skills across the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) 
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, effectively with diverse audiences 
    • Ability to increase efficiencies in individual work and team processes  
    • Strong work ethic with an eye for detail 
    • High ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion 
    • English language proficiency is essential and Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus. Additional languages – even better 
    • High school diploma or equivalent required 
    • Prior Legal Aid or related work experience a plus, but not required
