    The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Spanish Lecturer/Instructor position for the academic year 2023-2024. Renewal of the position is contingent on strong performance reviews and availability of funding.
    The successful candidate will teach first through third-semester courses in our introductory Spanish language sequence (with a 3-2 teaching load) and will also serve as Assistant Director of the Introductory Spanish sequence, reporting to the Director of Introductory Spanish. Responsibilities include teaching classes, grading student assignments, developing instructional materials, holding office hours, assisting with the observation and training of graduate student TAs, assisting with curricular oversight, and developing/maintaining student success initiatives.


    Qualifications

    For a position at the rank of Instructor, a Master's degree in Spanish, Language Pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, or closely related field is required with the completion date not later than August 1, 2023. For a position at the rank of Lecturer, a Ph.D. in Spanish, Language Pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, or closely related field is required with the completion date not later than August 1, 2023. Candidates must have professional-level proficiency in Spanish and English as well as significant prior classroom experience teaching Spanish at the university level.


    Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following:

    Evidence of teaching effectiveness;
    Experience with language program coordination;
    Experience with student success initiatives, such as those related to heritage speakers or first-generation college students;
    Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development.
    Experience with multiple course management systems.


    Appointment Information
    This is a 100% full-time non-tenure track position, appointed on a 9-month basis. Target start date is 8/16/2023. The starting salary for this position is $50,000 with the salary offer being commensurate with experience.
