Being an Instructor - Mathematics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Mathematics typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Job Description:
    The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Minnesota State University, Mankato currently has two (2) fixed term vacancies for the 2023-2024 academic year. Position is eligible for renewal each year for up to three (3) years based on performance and need. The standard teaching load is twelve (12) credit hours per semester. The responsibilities and qualifications for both positions are as follows:
    • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.




    • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

    • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

    • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

    • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).

    • Demonstrate commitment to multicultural/gender-fair/disability-aware education.

    • Teach a wide spectrum of college mathematics including trigonometry, finite math & business calculus, pre-calculus, calculus, and/or elementary statistics.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Masters Degree or PhD in Mathematics (conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources prior to August 7, 2023.)




    • Experience teaching college level mathematics.

    • Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens to this position including social justice and/or anti-racism.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.




    • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

    • Demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of courses in mathematics.

    • Demonstrated ability to teach finite mathematics and calculus with an emphasis on business applications.

    • Demonstrated ability to use technology in teaching mathematics.

    • Willingness to provide professional service within the Department and University.

    • Willingness to mentor students and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

    Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers B. A., B. S., M. A. and M. S. programs in mathematics, statistics, and secondary teaching. The Department has 25 full-time faculty committed to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Faculty specialties include applied computational mathematics, number theory, combinatorial matrix theory, stochastic differential equations and stochastic processes, partial differential equations and industrial mathematics, topology and dynamical systems, statistics, numerical analysis, probability, algebraic combinatorics and discrete mathematics, real analysis, geometry, optimization, and both elementary and secondary mathematics education.
