    Responsibilities

    The Lead Mechanical Engineer keeps equipment and facilities in compliance with regulatory standards and in good working order.  Repairs and maintenance are performed as needed on building equipment.  Assignments may be complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in solving problems and making recommendations.

      Examples of Duties include but are not limited to the following:  
  • Performs tasks using the standard power tools, materials, and trade codes to include personnel safety.
  • Performs service, maintenance, replacement, and repair of direct expansion equipment, chilled water equipment, and ventilation systems.
  • Operates energy management system: schedules, starts, stops equipment, and adjust the parameter of the HVAC system.
  • Assists in ordering parts, maintaining inventory of parts, and estimating materials and labor.
  • Ensures that the work is completed in a safe worker-like manner and applicable to standard trade practices and codes.
  • Performs assigned preventive maintenance tasks including replacing filters, replacing bearings, lubricating motors, troubleshooting, and making repair recommendations.
  • Maintains, replaces, and repairs cooling towers, air compressors, pneumatic regulators, lines and driers, air handler units, exhaust and supply fans, water pumps, direct expansion equipment, water coolers, thermostats, and related equipment.
  • Performs annual cleaning of coils and cooling towers.
  • Coordinates with other trades.
  • Responds to emergency problems in the facility, and make emergency repairs as needed.
  • Makes recommendations for modification or improvement of preventive maintenance systems.
  • Maintains shops and mechanical areas in a clean and safe manner.
  • Repair and calibrate using precision measuring instruments as well as hand or power tools.
  • Use of diagrams, sketches, mathematics, operating manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications to facilitate thorough and accurate repairs, maintenance, and operation of facilities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions using manuals, SOPs, tools, knowledge, and experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • Possess EPA Universal certification.
    • Requires the ability to comprehend HVAC terminology, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and equipment manufacturer’s cut sheets.
    • Knowledge of and experience with PLC, BAS and HVAC systems.
    • Ten (10) years of experience in the care and maintenance of air-conditioning, heating equipment, and control devices, including instruction in troubleshooting, which includes at least Seven (7) years of paid experience in a trade and Three (3) years at Journeyman level.
