Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. Dates of Employment: 

Summer / Fall: June 3, 2024 - December 13, 2024

Full time: 

40 hours per week

Location: 

San Antonio, TX

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Assist technical staff by applying standard engineering / scientific techniques to address client needs
• Support client funded testing projects including lab and full-scale studies focusing on vapor cloud explosions, flammability, laminar burning velocity and building response to blast loading 
• Expected to solve problems using procedures and criteria assigned by the technical staff. 
• Perform routine engineering calculations, assist at test range facility, conduct research, prepare presentations, drawings and reports. 
• Gain experience in the evaluation of flammability and explosion related phenomena, prediction of blast and fragment loads, and conducting explosion tests. 
• Establish priorities for completion of assigned workload, which may change from day to day. 

Requirements:

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a minimal 3.0 GPA in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.  Rising Junior or Senior level student.  Proficiency in MS Office Suite.  Ability to learn engineering software as needed to perform specific tasks as assigned by engineers.  Excellent oral and written communication skills required to interact with internal and external contacts. Previous hands-on experience with machining / design, laboratory experimentation, data acquisition systems and / or coding preferred.
