    Purpose of the Position:

     

    An instructor fulfills instructional duties and responsibilities as assigned including providing engaging instruction in core content, laboratory skills, and professionalism. An instructor models, guides and evaluates student demonstration of required program clinical skills. An instructor develops and delivers high quality academic remediation and intervention support and certification preparation services, as assigned. An instructor manages student information, evaluates student performance, maintains high levels of student engagement, models and teaches professionalism skills, and implements institutional initiatives, policies, and procedures. An instructor is responsive to student needs and feedback and works to maintain high levels of student satisfaction. An instructor works in tandem with program and institutional leadership and cross-department representatives to maximize academic achievement, retention, certification, graduation, and placement outcomes. 

     

    The job title reports to the Medical Assistant Program Director

     

    Key Responsibilities:

     

    Functional:

    • Teaches material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned schedules and deadlines to assure an appropriate level of student satisfaction.
    • Effectively prepares for each week of instruction and demonstrates proficiency with all relevant software, course content and materials.
    • Evaluates student coursework against stated learning outcomes and works with students so that a full achievement level is attained.
    • Grades all assignments and assessments and posts grades in a timely manner.
    • Provides students with feedback in a constructive and positive manner highlighting both strengths and areas in need of improvement.
    • Appraises students of their academic status throughout a course through continuous evaluation and review of formative and summative assessment results.
    • Remains available to students through posted office hours and individual one-to-one sessions.
    • Establishes and maintains a positive, student-centered learning environment.
    • Creates and implements curricular scaffolding tools and materials to match student learning styles and academic needs, supplementing those provided in the core curriculum.
    • Provides high quality academic support for students in need of intervention.
    • Remains responsive to student needs and student requests for support.
    • Proactively monitors students’ achievement and actively outreaches to at-risk students to support course persistence and program retention.
    • Effectively communicates by email, telephone, and in-person with students, fellow instructors, supervisors, and other school personnel.
    • Supervises student externship experiences, as assigned.
    • Provides tutoring and open laboratory skill instruction, as assigned.
    • Provides distance education for Online campus via online learning management system, as assigned. An instructor’s online course assignment is dependent needs of the Online campus and upon the instructor’s ability to effectively manage all aspects of his/her ground campus responsibilities.
    • Attends all required and assigned program and institutional meetings.
    • Advises students on matters related to academics, attendance, career readiness and professionalism.
    • Participates in curriculum development and review based upon expertise in subject area, current industry trends and student performance and engagement indicators.
    • Communicates with leadership when barriers to student success are identified and participates in identifying solutions.
    • Maintains an up-to-date faculty file in accordance with UMA policy, state regulations and accrediting commission requirements including required meetings, in-services and continuing education units.
    • Performs other duties as requested and assigned to ensure the smooth functioning and integrity of school’s operations.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
    • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

    • Manages and assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA

     

    Compliance:

    • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
    • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

     

    Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

     

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher
    • Equivalent of 15 semester credits hours in the subject field
    • Academic preparation in the specific courses taught
    • Graduation from a program in the healthcare field
    • Minimum of three (3) years of occupational experience
    • An industry certification/licensure if consistent with employment in the healthcare field of instruction (all certifications/licensures must remain active and be maintained as required by State and/or accrediting commissions)
    • Able to professionally communicate in verbal and written English
    • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Teams
    • Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment

     

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
    • Experience with Brightspace or another Learning Management System
    • Experience with CampusNexus or another Student Information System
    • Experience with Brightspace or another asynchronous instructional tool
    • One to three (1-3) post-secondary teaching experience
    • Demonstrated success in applying adult learning principals and best practices to ensure mastery of program/course learning objectives

     

    Working Environment:

    • Up to 10% of travel required - Valid Driver’s License required
    • Instructional Environment – Must be able to work in an office, classroom, and laboratory settings, and to visit employer and healthcare facility sites as needed
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
