Instructor - Music teaches courses in the discipline area of music. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Music provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Music typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Position Information
    Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position is responsible for teaching youth and adults a variety of group or private music lessons offered through the District.

    In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:
    • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
    • Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
    • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
    • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
    • Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.

    This position is responsible for: teaching music to students of all ages and skill levels enrolled in the Metro Arts music program; providing fun and exciting classes; managing bookings and private lessons; communicating with the Metro Arts staff team and students’ families; tracking attendance; maintaining a safe environment for students. This position will be required to check email and phone messages frequently for updates on program information and must be dedicated to representing the Metro Parks Tacoma core values. This position must also fulfill other specific duties as assigned.
    • Must be able to work collaboratively and independently.
    • Music experience is required, multiple and versatile styles preferred.
    • Teaching experience is required.
    • Must be able to work with students of all ages.
    • Reliable self-transportation is required to teach at multiple community centers.
    • Must be organized and observant of deadlines.
    • Must have excellent communication skills with supervisors. 
    • Must have excellent customer service skills with students and their families.
    HOURS:
    Must be available to teach classes scheduled once or twice a week in the evenings.
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Walking, kneeling or crouching. Hearing and speaking to exchange information
