Instructor - Music teaches courses in the discipline area of music. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Music provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Music typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.                                            Available to begin with the 24-25 School Year

     

    POSITION TITLE:         Band/MusicTeacher, Grades 6-12; Serving Jr. High and High School

     

    REPORT TO:                  Building Principals, Jr High and High School

     

    CLASSIFICATION:    Certificated position; FLSA Exempt

     

    REPRESENTATION:  Representation Available by the Wahluke Education Association

     

    Terms of Employment:          As per Wahluke Education Association Agreement work schedule. Wahluke Certified staff also receive a 5% Professional Learning Activity Stipend;Eight additional compensated work days; Professional Developement Funds; Longevity Stipends beginning in fifth year of teaching.  Plus a Music/Performance Stipend.

    Music/Designated Arts Teacher; Teach instrumental music and possibly other designated arts such as choir,  theatre. Band/Music endorsement required.   Expertise in  instrumental  education preferred Knowledge of State standards and ability to develop curriculum helpful. Demonstrated ability to engage middle and high school-age students. Plan and direct performances including marching and at all high school home football and basketball games, as well as other musical performance opportunities. Endorsement or training in ELL strategies, bilingual Spanish helpful.

    Responsible for the learning experience for students; demonstrates knowledge of subject matter, demonstrates competency in instructional skills; informs student of their progress; handles discipline and attendance problems; evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.

    Interest in developing instrumental opportunities based upon student interest, may include Latin instrumental group. Extended contract available. Assignment may depend upon candidate qualifications and abilities and may include but not be limited to pep band, jazz, concert bands.  

     

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:        

    • Must hold or be able to obtain proper Washington teaching certificate with Instrumental Music endorsement required. General Music endorsement along with Instrumental preferred. 
    • Demonstrates strong instrumental and general music skills and a well developed understanding of processes, qualities, skills, talents, and techniques.
    • Knowledge of the elements and principles of music theory, styles, elements, ability to demonstrate performance techniques, and conducting.
    • Candidates with an ELL endorsement and / or those who are bilingual / bicultural may receive preferential consideration.
    • Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery as well a student learning.  
    • Ability to teach a broad range of instrumental and music courses preferred. 
    • Understanding/Knowledge of 5D  CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices.
    • Ability to work as a participating and collaborative team member.  
    • Knowledge of/training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, AVID, and Character Strong helpful. 
    • Ability to demonstrate through verbal and non-verbal behavior a warm and caring personality, a sense of humor, and a positive, enthusiastic approach to working with students, parents and staff.
    • Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment, and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Able to plan, direct and attend performances, including outside the school day and school week,  as required by supplemental contract
    • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student and district records required.

    1. Participate in curriculum review and design with an understanding of the Common Core State Standards

    2. Understands and applies the Washington State learning standards for general music and instrumental music.
    3. Develop lessons to reflect standards in content area. 
    4. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.

    5. May serve students that qualify for special education services.  
    6. Implements a comprehensive, sequential, standards based and creative approach to music education.
    7. Diagnose and evaluates student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.

    8. Collaborate with Special Education teacher/supervisor to assist in development of student educational plans and deliver appropriate instruction as per plan.
    9. Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly, using both formative and summative processes.

    10. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

    11. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.

    12. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

    13. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education, CTE / STEM and others.

    14. Effectively implement district initiatives.

    15. Use the PLC process to effectively communicate and collaborate with professionals at the department, building, and district levels.

    16. Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provides a classroom climate that is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and consistency ensuring that every child has an equitable opportunity for success.
    17. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, of students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles (Basic levels and extensions beyond basics).
    18. Plan and direct performances, including outside the school day and school week,  as required by supplemental contract.
    19. Provide for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provide a classroom climate which is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency ensuring that every child has an equitable opportunity for success.
    20. Performs job related, non-teaching duties
    21. Provide guidance and supervise instructional aides if so assigned.

    OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

    6. Attend work as scheduled.
    7. Remain current on instructional practices in education and the content area.
    8. Support the total school program by observing curricular and extra-curricular student activities.
    9. Exhibit dependability and punctuality in assigned duties.
    10. Display appropriate personal and professional traits that exhibit a positive role model for students.
    11. Strive to achieve the objectives and expectations of the Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
    12. Teachers will recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
    13. Collaborate with Intervention Specialists and share pertinent information with building administration and intervention teams.
    14. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
    15. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
    16. Collect student data using a variety of data collection forms for purposes of determining appropriate instruction.
    17. Ability and willingness to attend student field trips.
    18. Attends meetings and training sessions related content areas as may be assigned
    19. Willingness and ability to attend trainings, including travel.  Maybe outside the school year calendar, may include overnight.
    20. Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
    21. Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed.
    22. Maintain professional boundaries in all interactions with students.
    23. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
    24. Able to work in a calm, efficient safe manner.
