Instructor - Nursing teaches courses in the discipline area of nursing. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Nursing provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Nursing typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. Major/Essential Functions
Provides academic and clinical instruction within the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing
Plans, coordinates, and conducts classroom and clinical experiences for students
Participates in scholarly and academic activities appropriate to rank
Reports directly to the designated assistant dean
Maintains academic standards as established by the school and the university
Teaches students in the clinical, laboratory and classroom settings
Assumes responsibility for and/or participates in the planning and organization of courses to which assigned
Provides academic advising/counseling to assigned students
Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of school, program and course and student activities
Plans professional development activities for self, such as continued education offerings workshops, professional meetings, etc.
Participates in programs, school and university committees and in other activities associated with professional status
Maintains membership in and participates in professional associations by serving on local/state committees of professional organizations
Incorporates new knowledge and techniques in clinical, classroom and laboratory teaching
Conducts research or practice activities appropriate to rank
Displays a scholarly orientation to the assumption of the responsibilities of a university faculty member as defined in the guidelines of qualification for faculty appointment rank
Performs other duties as required
Required Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program
Experience in scholarly activities such as publications/presentations or advanced nursing practice
Eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or compact state recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing
Preferred Qualifications
Effective verbal/written communications skills and proficiency in English language
Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and instructional design and implementation
Awareness of current issues/trends in nursing and higher education
Demonstrate leadership skills
