Being an Instructor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. Posting Detail InformationJob Summary/Basic FunctionEstablish tutoring sessions and be available during those sessions to assist students as needed.
Classes to be tutored:- PHIL 100: Intro. to Philosophy
- PHIL 120: Intro. to Ethics
- PHIL 211: Intro. to Logic
Required Qualifications- PHIL 100 and PHIL 120: Current Philosophy major or minor student in good academic standing during the time of employment, or student who is not a Philosophy major/minor who, after meeting with the course instructor, successfully demonstrates that they can tutor the class(es).
- PHIL 211: Current Philosophy major or minor student in good academic standing during the time of employment, or student who is not a Philosophy major/minor who has successfully completed this course.
- Must be referred by a faculty member in the Philosophy Department.
- Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
Job DutiesAssist students as needed during posted hours.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort- Be able to sit and use a computer for the length of shift
