Instructor - Philosophy teaches courses in the discipline area of philosophy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     PHILOSOPHY, PART-TIME LECTURER POOL. The Philosophy Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers with positions available as determined by need and funding during the Fall, Winter and/or Spring quarters of the 2023-2024 academic year, beginning September 14, 2023. Teaching assignments are contingent upon budget and enrollments. Responsibilities and duties may include teaching general education courses in areas such as philosophical classics, critical thinking, and possibly some upper-division general education courses.

    Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2022, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

    Lecturer A:  $4,530-$6,056
    Lecturer B:  $5,405-$11,994
    Lecturer C: $6,190-$13,172
    Lecturer D: $7,794-$13,797

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A Master's or ABD in Philosophy is required. Applicants must document excellence in teaching at the college or university level.  

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Ph.D. in Philosophy is preferred.
