Psychology Adjunct Instructor (Temporary)

Description of Position:
The San Ramon Campus of Diablo Valley College is looking for a qualified instructor for our teaching pool to teach both in person and online courses. We offer a variety of classes for instructors to teach, including Introduction to Psychology, Lifespan Development, Abnormal Psychology, and much more. Classes offered will include full term, short term, summer, and winter intersessions based on student demand and the availability of the instructor.
Additionally, there a paid subbing opportunity starting November 13th, 2023, for the fall semester.
Interested adjunct faculty would sub one or two in-person courses located in the San Ramon Campus of DVC, depending on the availability and instructor's comfort of subject. These courses include:
- Human Sexuality, MW 11:10am -12:35pm, November 13 - December 8, 2023 (end of school year).
- Introduction to Psychology, MW 12:45pm -2:10pm, November 13 - December 8, 2023 (end of school year).
Responsibilities include lecturing, grading assignments, proctoring exams, and entering final grades. Lecture templates and pre-made assignments are available upon request.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work.
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Masters in psychology
OR
Bachelors in psychology AND Masters in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work
OR
the equivalent
Desirable Qualifications:
College teaching experience; the ability to teach a student body diverse in age, ethnicity, and academic skills; the ability to teach a large number of courses from our Psychology offerings including: Introduction to Psychology (PSYCH-101); Lifespan Development (PSYCH-200); Introduction to Biological Psychology (PSYCH-130); Psychology of Adolescence (PSYCH-190); Social Psychology (PSYCH-225); Abnormal Psychology (PSYCH-230); Psychology of Modern Life (PSYCH-122); Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology (PSYCH-215).
