Instructor - Rehabilitation teaches courses in the discipline area of rehabilitation and therapy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Rehabilitation provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Rehabilitation typically reports to a department head. We are currently seeking a person who identifies strongly with our mission and core values to join our team in Seattle, WA as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist and/or Rehabilitation Teacher in our Employment and Community Services department (ECS) Independent Living Program. ECS is a human services department very unique to The Lighthouse.
This is an ideal role for someone who is able to build strong cross functional team relationships, is motivated to help individuals gain independence, and is or will be a certified COMS, CVRT and/or is a Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT). The idea candidate has a passion for helping blind adults to lead independent lives. Prior O&M experience is not required, and we are willing to speak to graduating students and those who are newly certified. We are also willing to speak to people with experience working with people with disabilities. People in this role work with working age adults.
This role serves a 5 county area and most clients are located in King County.

Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to provide training in daily living/adaptive communication techniques, education/consultation, safe travel training and information & referral to community members who have low vision. The O&M Instructor works collaboratively with coworkers on the team, and with community partners to ensure clients 24 years old and above receive comprehensive adaptive skills training to help each individual achieve his or her goals for independence.
