Instructor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.   • The Sociology Program within the School of Public Policy invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure-track full/part-time Instructor positions to teach on a term by term basis for the 2023-2024 academic year. Some of these appointments may be reviewed for renewal or transition to an instructional position on an annual basis at the discretion of the Director.

    Instructors may be needed to teach on-campus or Ecampus courses in the following areas: undergraduate courses in the following areas: Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Science and Technology, Theory, Research Methods, Environment, Aging, Race, Ethnicity and Globalization.

    This position will be appointed in the Sociology Program that is part of the School of Public Policy (SPP). The School is comprised of the Political Science, Sociology, and Economics programs, and is rapidly growing, both in faculty, mission, and regional prominence. In addition to providing separate and distinct undergraduate majors, the programs have collaborated in delivering a successful Master of Public Policy Program (http://oregonstate.edu/cla/mpp/home) and PhD in Public Policy to graduate students interested in our concentration areas of environmental policy, energy policy, international policy, science and technology policy, social policy, rural policy, and crime, law and policy. Faculty and graduate students also collaborate with colleagues in such colleges as Agricultural Sciences, Education, Forestry, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts, Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, and Science. The SPP is uniquely positioned to integrate groundbreaking research into emerging policies, practices and understandings of the world that will impact and influence local, regional, national, and international policy decisions.
    Position Duties
    100% Instruction:

    Administer and teach undergraduate or graduate courses in the following areas: Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Science and Technology, Theory, Research Methods, Environment, Aging, Race, Ethnicity and Globalization.

    Hold regular office hours to assist students with coursework and answer questions regarding curriculum.
    Minimum/Required Qualifications
    M.A. in Sociology or related discipline.

    Teaching experience at the college/university level.

    Evident commitment to educational equity.
    Preferred (Special) Qualifications
    A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
