POSITION:
Elementary Special Education Teacher
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Superintendent and Building Principal
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Creating a flexible school age based program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with pupils; motivating pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for preparation for college, careers, and citizenship, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establishing good relationships with parents and with other staff members; prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results; assigns lessons, corrects papers, etc.; teaches rules of conduct; maintains order in classroom and on school grounds; counsels pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise, discusses pupils’ academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents; keeps attendance and grade records as required by school; other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and valid Mild/Moderate SPED certification. Additional Elementary Education certifications are a plus.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Regular attendance following a designated work schedule; must be able to work extended hours and additional days/evenings as required by position responsibilities; must be able to attend and participate in meetings and conferences scheduled.
