Instructor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina Special Education Teaching Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
- Previous experience working as a Special Education Teacher preferred
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other relevant special education documentation
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse student needs
- Understanding of relevant laws and regulations governing special education services
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in various educational settings
- Collaborate with other educators, administrators, and support staff to ensure student success
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and goals
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student services and progress
- Attend meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities as required
