Special Education Resource Instructor

  • The following is a brief overview of the typical duties associated with this position; it is not all-inclusive: Overview: To remediate disabilities and/or develop compensatory skills of special education students with specific learning disabilities and related emotional problems while supporting and aiding the student in obtaining a realistic occupational objective in a technical school environment through the operation of a Special Education Resource Center Program and by acting as a resource to the general education staff through a teaming approach in order to promote an integrated educational process. 1. Establish and operate a special education resource center program for students with specific learning disabilities and/or related emotional problems as designed and prescribed by an evaluation team and in compliance with special education regulations. 2. Act as a resource and consultant to the assigned special students and general education teachers as support for integrated programming. 3. Aid in the assessment of individual student's educational and behavioral needs and participate as a member of an evaluation team assisting in the diagnosis and educational program development as deemed necessary by the Director of Special Education. 4. Assist the Director in monitoring and reporting student progress, keeping staff and parents informed, development and implementation of special education programs. 5. Work cooperatively as part of a team co-teaching in general education inclusionary settings as designated by the Director of Special Education. 6. Act as Liaison for assigned Special Education caseload as designated by the Director of Special Education. Qualifications: Licensure as a Special Education Instructor Moderate Disabilities (5-12) by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education required. Additional licensure in English, Science and/or Mathematics 8-12 strongly preferred. Substantial training in/for disabilities, with training and/or experience in individualized instruction/assessment of student's specific educational and behavioral needs. Substantial knowledge and experience with instructional materials, teaching, and strategies and ability to devise own materials and methodologies. Experience in and/or training with adolescent students preferred. Familiarity with standards outlined in Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks preferred. Experience in co-teaching in an inclusionary classroom setting is preferred.
