Insurance Claims Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting initiatives relative to the evaluation, processing, and handling of insurance claims for an organization. Acts as a liaison between the organization, its insurance provider and agents, claimants, and policy holders regarding the status and eligibility for coverage for all relevant claims. Being an Insurance Claims Coordinator reviews claims to make sure that billing requirements are met, updates accounts as necessary, answers inquiries, and makes recommendations for resolution. Typically requires an associate degree or its equivalent. Additionally, Insurance Claims Coordinator typically reports to a manager. The Insurance Claims Coordinator gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision.     Position Summary
    Performs independent claims examination activities for the field or home offices. Analyzes claims with high exposure and/or complexity.

    • The successful candidate will have a focus on and be well versed in Liability, Coverage and Litigation.
    • Successful candidate will work from the Home and live in ERIE’s Footprint.
    Duties and Responsibilities
    Directs field management on the handling of complex claims including coverage, reserving and resolution strategy.
    Responsible for files involving litigation against ERIE. Manages the litigation process including collaboration with Claims Legal Department and outside counsel.
    Directs investigation, settlement, and/or coverage denials of claims. Directs appeal process and handling of excess verdicts.
    Reviews files and collaborates with field Management on recommendations for improvement as appropriate. Visits field offices on a periodic basis to conduct training including, but not limited to, claims handling processes and procedures, coverage, statutory changes and reserving.
    Reviews and analyzes statutory changes and works to ensure applicable changes are implemented for compliance in designated jurisdictions.
    Assists defense counsel in litigation and trial as needed.
    Participates in or leads special projects with other departments.

    Qualifications
    The minimum education and experience requirements are as follows:
    Bachelor's degree with five years’ experience adjusting complex claim matters, required; or Associate's degree with seven years’ experience adjusting complex claim matters, required; or
    High school diploma or GED with nine years’ experience adjusting complex claim matters, required.

    Extensive knowledge of applicable line of business (Worker’s Compensation, Liability, Medical Management, or Property) required. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Valid driver's license required. Pursuit and successful completion of a professional designation, such as AIC, CPCU, SCLA, WCLA or equivalent, preferred.
