Insurance Verification Specialist jobs in Denver, CO
Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for the pre-verification of insurance for patients being admitted into the hospital for care. Ensures insurance coverage by telephone, resolves any issues with coverage and escalates complicated issues to a supervisor or manager. Being an Insurance Verification Specialist interviews patients and completes all paperwork necessary to ensure the admitting process is efficient and all hospital and regulatory policies are in compliance. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Insurance Verification Specialist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be an Insurance Verification Specialist typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Job SummaryUnder minimal supervision, collects comprehensive demographic and insurance information required for facilitating timely and accurate billing of patients presenting for services. Verifies and identifies patient payer sources and obtains insurance authorizations for patients admitted to the hospital/emergency department or referred to ancillary /specialty services. Performs the appropriate notification of admission (NOA) to payers for their members who are admitted to Denver Health for ongoing treatment and services. Documents gathered patient authorization information.
Education and Experience1. Graduation from High School or GED Certificate required.2. Two years of college and/or Associate’s Degree preferred. Experience may be substituted for college requirements.3. Two years relevant experience in a customer-service business required. Hospital/medical office setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities1. Ability to type 25 wpm.2. Ability to prioritize and perform a multitude of duties.3. Ability to relate to a diverse patient population.4. Excellent telephone and customer service skills.5. Critical analytical/investigative thinking skills.6. Some knowledge of basic medical terminology, as well as anatomy and physiology.7. Some knowledge of insurance concepts, practice, and procedures.
Computers and Technology1. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.2. Familiarity with Epic.3. Familiarity with insurance portals.
