Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for the pre-verification of insurance for patients being admitted into the hospital for care. Ensures insurance coverage by telephone, resolves any issues with coverage and escalates complicated issues to a supervisor or manager. Being an Insurance Verification Specialist interviews patients and completes all paperwork necessary to ensure the admitting process is efficient and all hospital and regulatory policies are in compliance. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Additionally, Insurance Verification Specialist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. To be an Insurance Verification Specialist typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Overview: 
    Office Administrators/Insurance Authorization Specialists play a key role in the patient experience. They are the first people our patients interact with and have an important role in assessing patient healthcare needs.  

    Responsibilities Include but are not limited to: 
    • Welcomes patients and visitors to the office by greeting patients and visitors. 
    • Provide the highest level of customer service to patients, fellow team members and referral sources. 
    • Assist in answering phones, greeting patients, data entry and patient intake. Answers, screens, and directs phone calls to staff; takes messages.  
    • Obtain accurate insurance information, verification, and pre-authorization via appropriate method. 
    • Schedules appointments for the office to optimize patient satisfaction, provider time and most effective use of examining and treatment rooms. Prepares a daily schedule of examinations for each provider.  
    • Process claim billing daily ensuring that claims are accurate, timely and fully documented. 
    • Provide counseling to patients advising them of their financial responsibility and obtain credit agreements for outstanding balances. 
    • Maintain accurate and complete patient files. 
    • Provide status updates to patients and internal team. 
    • Coordinate scheduling of practitioner schedules to ensure proper coverage of patient appointments and out-of-office calls. 
    • Review clinician documentation to ensure that patients’ charts are complete. 
    • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned. 
      
     Skills/Requirements: 
    • Understanding of medical reimbursement and terminology and a complete understanding of general office duties. 
    • Knowledge of state, federal and regional collection, and reimbursement laws where applicable. 
    • Experience with patient financial counseling. 
    • Strong interpersonal, oral (including telephone) and written communication skills. 
    • Excellent customer service skills.  
    • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks. 
    • Basic understanding of administrative and clerical procedures and systems.  
    • Proficient computer skills including Windows based office technologies and automated billing systems. 
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.  
    • Ability to use all necessary office equipment, facsimile machines, calculator, postage machine, copiers, scanner. 
    • Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus 
     
    Education and Experience: 
    • Graduate of a certified medical office training course preferred. 
    • High school graduate or equivalent required.  
    • Experience working in a medical practice/healthcare setting; at least 1 year preferred.
