Detailed Job Description
The Director of the Intellectual Property and Management Office (IPMO) at RIT is responsible for the management and administration of the office. They are responsible for the identification, protection, marketing, licensing, tech transfer, and overall stewardship of the RIT intellectual property (IP) portfolio. Objectives include the education of the RIT community on all aspects pertaining to intellectual property development, protection, and tech transfer. Provides counsel to senior leadership and works with our Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) on all intellectual property matters. Develops our intellectual property strategies to identify, protect, and license RIT technologies and discoveries. Develops and negotiates the licensing, assignment, and other agreements associated with the university's technology transfer efforts. Reports directly to the Vice President for Research with dotted-line reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel.
Major Responsiblities:

Supervisory and fiduciary responsibility for the IPMO
- Intellectual Property prospecting
- Manages the disclosure review process
- Leads our IP marketing & tech transfer activities
- Negotiates and authors our licensing agreements
- Provides education to the university community on IP and tech transfer
- Works with our OLA on all legal aspects of our IP portfolio and related agreements
- Advises the university administration on IP strategy
- Supports Sponsored Research Services on IP matters in proposals and awards.

Oversee and ensure compliance with invention reporting requirements of external sponsors.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/Certifications/Experience:

Bachelors degree in Science, Engineering, or equivalent

Licensing Professional (Registered Technology Transfer Profession (RTTP), Certified Licensing Profession (CLP), or equivalent)

5 years of higher education or industry experience with patenting and tech transfer
Skills:
-
Demonstrated experience with IP identification, valuation, marketing, and licensing

Demonstrated experience with authoring and negotiating license agreements
