    Position:
    We are seeking to hire a full-time CAD Designer to produce construction documents (infrastructure, and grading/drainage plans, sections, and details, etc.) using AutoCAD. The ideal candidate should have extensive knowledge and experience in water. wastewater and storm drain design. The CAD Designer must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a team environment. The position receives direction from and reports directly to the CAD Manager.

    This job description contains specific requirements for the position, but by no means should it limit the individual's personal aspirations for growth within our firm. The applicant should have the following experience and training:

    • Minimum of a 2-year Associates Degree or will be working towards it. A degree will not be required for a candidate who demonstrates aptitude, skills, and ability.
    • Minimum of 5 years work-related experience in Civil design, specifically with computer aided design software - Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must as this position includes coordination with engineering staff.
    • Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

    Job Description:
    Expected duties and other essential responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Design and prepare routine to highly complex plans for water distribution, sanitary sewers, and storm drainage projects under the direction of a professional Civil Engineer.
    • Prepare technical plans, profiles, and cross sections; calculate and plot field survey data in the preparation of plans, profiles, and cross sections.
    • Utilize engineering technology to compute and design vertical and horizontal alignments, curves, grades, street cross slopes, pipe slopes and capacities, pump and generator size, and other related computations.
    • Organize, set up, and develop engineered drawings, site plans, profiles, sections, and details for infrastructure projects.
    • Carry out/identify creative modifications or improvements to projects.
    • Provide technical support and direction to members of the drafting team.
    • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, and agencies using principles of good customer service.
    • Maintain a variety of records and files associated with plan sets.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD & AutoCAD Civil 3D software including Civil 3D objects, sheet set manager, and pipe networks specific to gravity and pressure pipeline design, plan and profile design, and general knowledge of surfaces, earthwork and grading.
    • Understanding CAD standards, developing templates, and creating and utilizing block libraries.
    • Ability to import and format survey topographic data.
    • Knowledge of managing xrefs, overlays, and aerial imagery in drawings.
    • Knowledge and ability to prepare grading, utilities, and roadway plans is required.
    • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
    • Ability to work under close supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time, and be able to multitask and prioritize.
    • Basic mathematical skills (e.g., averages, percentages).
    • Identify creative modifications or improvements to project drawings.
    • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives.
    • Establish schedules and methods for the performance of technical and professional engineering duties.
    • Implement policies and procedures related to assigned projects.

    In addition to the required experience and training for the position, experience and skill with the following technology/software is preferred but not required:

    • Analytical or scientific software - Innovyze Software (InfoWater, InfoSewer); Bentley Systems

    (SewerCAD/WaterCAD)

    • Map creation software - ESRI ArcGIS software; MapInfo
    • Office suite software - Microsoft Office
    • PDF software - Adobe Acrobat Pro; Bluebeam

    Salary:
    Compensation for the position is commensurate with education, experience, attitude, skills, and references. The salary range is $75,000 to $85,000.
