May require familiarity with various graphic design software packages. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Interface Engineer

  • Position Purpose

    Under the direction of the IT Interface Coordinator and IT Leadership team the Interface Engineer, participates in and administers the design, implementation, and maintenance of interfaces (mostly HL7) within Renown Health System. Key responsibilities are to design and build interfaces between Renown’s internal applications, as well as external vendor applications. Additional responsibilities include working with the Interface Coordinator to set priorities on projects; monitoring production interfaces; and resolving issues on production interfaces.

     

     

    Nature and Scope

    This position works with other Renown Interface Engineers, Renown system administers, Renown business stakeholders and external vendors to integrate data between systems. Primary focus will be HL7 interface build/maintenance and sFTP build/maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to designing, building, deploying and maintaining this code.

    This role requires the ability to understand and resolve complex problems in a timely and effective manner, using critical thinking skills and attention to detail.

     

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Participating in on-call rotations and work off hours when necessary for systems upgrades, go-lives.
    • Maintaining EPIC Bridges certification.

     

     

    Incumbent must possess: 

    • The ability to keep current with new developments in the industry, in order to acquire the knowledge to keep skills up to date.
    • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • The ability to remain an engaged member of the team and to promote this concept.
    • The ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal direction/guidance.
    • The ability to routinely work under stress and to deadlines.
    • The ability to balance workload, shifting priorities as needs arise.
    • The ability to create very detailed documentation.
    • Knowledge of at least one interface engine (Openlink preferred) and HL7 formatting.
    • Experience working with an EMR/EHR system (EPIC preferred).
    • The basic knowledge of FHIR interfaces.

    A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Operations, Management, or other related field is required. Experience may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Experience:

    Requires a minimum of three (3) years experience with ELT or interface design, development and maintenance. Proficiency in requirements analysis, reporting build, or other data management related experience.
