The purpose of the Upfit Assembly Supervisor is to have a responsible person capable of operating and managing certain daily business activities, either in association with, or in absence of the business owner/operator.

Duties and Responsibilities

Unless otherwise specified, the Upfit Assembly Supervisor is responsible for all daily internal service-related interactions. The responsibility includes, but is not limited to, a dedication to the company’s mission statement, to company profitability and 100% customer satisfaction.

• Enforce all company policies as defined in the SMEG Company Handbook
• Overall supervision and direction of the upfitting staff.
• Direct customer, service staff and sales staff interaction
• Maintain clean and safe facility including offices.
• Always maintain a neat and professional personal appearance.
• Understanding of business financials and goals (Share with assembly staff daily, weekly and monthly)
• Follow company processes and procedures as defined in the SMEG operations manual.
• Initiate morning meetings with assembly staff to plan the day.
• Interact with sales staff to offer service support during presentations and trade shows.
• Follow up during and after units are delivered to ensure customers are well informed and satisfied.
• Prepare estimates, work orders, draft proposal specifications, and coordinate workflow within the shop.
• Prepare, Catalog, and Maintain Updated Cad drawings of the IAS product line.
• Provide Inventory control, identify parts needed, provide stock order request, and log employee labor hours.
• Maintain accurate and legible company reports and paperwork.
• Notice and report potential problem areas to management before they arise
• Maintain a successful working relationship with Siddons Martin Emergency Group, Industrial Apparatus Service, Pierce Manufacturing personnel and Local Service Venders.
• Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately assemble equipment
• Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards
• Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified
• Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes
• Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
• Maintain a clean and safe work area

Supervisory Responsibilities:

As directed by the Upfit Assembly Manager.

Qualifications

• The Upfit Assembly Supervisor must be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to set and reach performance goals set forth by the owner/operator.
• Experience within Fire and Emergency related industry
• Basic knowledge of 12-volt electrical systems, able to interpret and follow basic installation instructions, wiring diagrams, and specifications to properly install 12-volt equipment.
• Utilize handheld tools such as a handheld screw and drill gun

• Computer skills: Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook Email, Microsoft Word & Excel programs as well with any company provided software.
• Must demonstrate the ability to review performance goals with all employees designated within his/her service facility and instruct on areas in need of improvement.
• Maintain, conduct and record safety training as required by the company.

With appropriate notification, the Upfit Assembly Supervisor agrees to attend and participate in all career specific seminars, training courses, industry related certification programs and internal company training and or meetings recommended or scheduled by the business owner/operator.

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• 3 to 5 Plus years with experience in an automotive / manufacturing service-related industry
• Knowledge of repair principles and procedures in all areas of the Heavy Truck Repair and Upfitting Industry.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) and ASE Heavy Truck Certifications are a plus.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk over 50% of work time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
