    Under minimal supervision and without established procedures, this position is responsible for utilizing desktop publishing and software systems to produce, revise, and format publication materials such as proposals, technical articles, publications, books, manuals, reports, and marketing materials. Determines project requirements and presents drafts of finished product to users.

    Ensures there is high quality of output and compatibility of product with follow-on reproduction processes. Also may assist with design layouts, editorial illustrations, and developing creative artwork for document publication. May maintain various reports and records such as production logs, project scheduling, and budgeting, and billing cost data. Coordinates the final document review with editors, professional staff and authors to ensure it meets all proposal requirements.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Formats, produces, and revises proposals, technical documents, presentations, reports, scientific journal articles, and marketing materials from handwritten and electronic documents.
    • Prepares and proofs graphics for integration into desktop publication programs.
    • May create full color viewgraphs and posters.
    • May edit material for spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 5. Maintains electronic and physical files for all publication material.
    • Maintains up to date desktop publishing skills including integrating text and graphics and publishing on the web.
    • May have responsibility or input on reproduction and printing processes through in-house resources or outside vendors.
    • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating practices and procedures.
    • Additional Functions: Other duties as assigned or required.

    Job Qualifications:
    • Typically requires a High School diploma and six or more years of progressive experience in desktop publishing/word processing in a commercial or government organization. Equivalent additional work experience in publishing/word processing may be substituted in lieu of education.
    • Must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding and ability to use a PC or MAC computer to transcribe text, tables, figures, and forms; and, have an extensive and through understanding of applicable software such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Photoshop, Quark Press, and Adobe Illustrator as well as experience demonstrating the effective use of the software.
    • Must possess the ability to organize, schedule, meet established timelines, and coordinate multiple work phases; determine the appropriate approach at the task level; and, provide solutions to a variety of very complex publishing/word processing problems.
    • Must be able to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of professional staff, including management, interpret and explain very complex information, establish priorities, and respond to very complex issues or situations that require evaluation and interpretation, and ability to work independently or as part of a team. Able to work extended hours as required.
