Our client has retained our services to hire a full-time Corporate Controller in the Salt Lake City, UT area.
  
The Corporate Controller is an integral part of the company’s accounting and finance department. As the Controller, you will manage internal staff and third-party auditors, advisors, bankers and contractors.  The Controller will collaborate with other departments within the organization and ensure adherence to all accounting policies and procedures to produce and ensure timely and accurate reporting of consolidated financial results on a GAAP basis. Key areas of responsibility include the production of monthly and annual financial statements, financial statement analysis, audit-related activity, accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight, cash flow review, and maintenance of internal controls and financial systems. The Corporate Controller is a key leadership role and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
 

Job Requirements:  

• Direct and coordinate the overall functions of accounting to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Manage general ledger and perform all month-end and year-end close processes including any account, statement or transaction reconciliations.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies and standardize accounting procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, federal and state tax laws, and all regulatory agencies.
• Maintain and ensure effective internal controls within accounting function.
• Participate in the development, update and review of budgets.
• Oversee and ensure compliance with all tax matters including year-end filings, sales taxes, city taxes, and any tax credit studies.
• Review third-party contracts and develop processes for measuring and reporting the revenue and costs from these contracts in accordance with GAAP.
•  Lead and oversee the development and implementation of financial systems, work with consultants and other staff to ensure timely and accurate implementations.
• Lead and drive continuous process improvements and efficiency within accounting functions, resulting in more streamlined and cost-effective processes.
• Demonstrate excellent leadership and decision-making skills adhering to Corporate, Department and HR policies and procedures.
• Participate in or lead special projects, ad-hoc analyses and support various finance and operations-related work as needed.
• All other duties as needed to ensure a high-performing finance team.

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related field is required, Master’s degree (or equivalent) is preferred.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 3 years of public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• 5 years of accounting experience with 2 years as controller is preferred.
•  Experience with a company that has a fast-paced, hands-on culture. This person must show a demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt.
• Significant experience ensuring GAAP compliance.

• Have a deep knowledge of accounting rules, principles, policies, procedures required to produce and present financials statements and accompanying footnotes in accordance with US GAAP including
  • Have knowledge of internal controls required to ensure validity of financial statements and satisfy typical audit requirements.
  • While in a controller position, have experience working with auditors and planning for and successfully managing the annual financial statement audit process.
  • Proficient in computer systems, spreadsheets, financial systems and applications such as Aptean or other ERP systems. 
  • Have experience managing, growing and developing a high-performing accounting team.
  • Skill in analyzing financial data and preparing appropriate related reports.
  • Has excellent decision-making skills and can act and operate independently with minimal direction to accomplish objectives.
  • Can work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity and problem-solving.
  • Has an excellent capacity to prioritize effectively and stay poised in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Has excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to build cross-functional relationships with all levels within the organization.
