Position Summary:
The International Division Director designs and leads the international investment and trade development strategy for the State of Kansas. The Director ensures human and financial resources are sufficient to establish and enhance key trade relationships, provide a robust menu of trade services to Kansas companies, conduct meaningful trade missions, increase sales of Kansas products and services in the international markets and increase foreign investment in Kansas.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Leads the development of relationships critical to global trade and investment in the State of Kansas. Plans and hosts international delegations visiting Kansas for the purpose of furthering trade and investment. Works with trade associations, business leaders and partners to promote the State and our products and services.
Plans and executes international trade missions that can expand markets, further existing or create new relationships and provide meaningful international investment in Kansas. Recruit Kansas companies to participate in the trade missions and trade shows in regions around the world. Organizes the Kansas presence at Farmbrough Air Show, Paris Air Show and other key industry trade shows to grow the Kansas economy
Supervise and evaluate performance of the international development staff and consultants, as well as International Trade offices located outside the U.S. Establishes performance expectations and priority outcomes, evaluates performance, provides employee guidance and assigns work. Makes recommendations to the Secretary with regard to hiring, disciplinary action and terminations.
Works collaboratively with the Business Development Division to serve existing Kansas businesses and recruit new businesses to Kansas. Helps prepare and brief the Governor regarding trade delegations, trade missions and trade shows. Also advises the Secretary and Administration regarding trade opportunities and new tools to expand markets
Stays attuned to all issues related to our relevant trading partners and stays current on trade policies that affect Kansas’ position as a global trading partner. Serves as a key collaborative member of the Secretary’s Leadership Team.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Licensing & Certification:
Master’s degree or equivalent years of experience in business and international trade. Supervisory experience and ability to lead a diverse team that is dispersed globally.
High level organizational and management skills of human and financial resources to constantly improve Division’s performance
Strong communications and collaboration skills
