Position: QHSE Specialist
Department: QA/HSE
Position Summary:
The QHSE Specialist will be highly motivated, detail oriented with good communication skills. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulations and create a safe working environment. The QHSE Specialist is responsible for the safe and proper testing of the materials and processes used in manufacturing, and the testing of the products manufactured by Phoenix Technologies. The QHSE Specialist will collaborate with various departments to assess risks, provide training, and implement proactive measures to enhance the overall quality, health, and safety culture within the organization.
Authority of Incumbent:
Position will directly report to Quality Assurance Manager with additional accountability to the Site Manager.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the following tasks:
- Develop, implement, and improve operational Quality and HSE management systems, processes, and procedures to support business operations.
- Conduct thorough assessments of workplace environments to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Analyze incident reports and trends to develop strategies for accident prevention.
- Stay up to date with local, state, and federal regulations related to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Ensure the organization's compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Develop and deliver training programs on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness.
- Collaborate with department heads to tailor training sessions to specific job roles and hazards.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Prepare detailed reports outlining root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
- Conduct drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures.
- Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
- Implement initiatives to encourage employee engagement in safety practices.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents.
- Oversee quality technician’s specific duties to complete testing plans. Assists in the set-up, operation, adjustment, and monitoring of laboratory and production equipment.
- Evaluate and grade incoming materials for prospective suppliers for fitness for use.
- Monitor changing requirements and the effects on incoming materials and finished product.
- Work with Production to ensure proper instructions are followed, and samples are taken.
- Collect, package, and ship product samples.
- Prepare regular reports for management on the status of QHSE programs.
- Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology.
- Writing reports.

- Will have a medium to high level of work interaction with others.
- Will communicate mostly in-person.
Physical Work Conditions:
- Work indoors and outdoors.
- Exposure to noise within acceptable OSHA levels
- Exposure to dust within the acceptable by OSHA levels
- Exposure to some chemicals
Hours/Travel:
- Have a set schedule each week.
- Works 8-hour, Monday-Friday schedule.
- Travel between plants is required.
Standards of performance:
- Work safely and keep safety a top priority in all actions. Must observe established OSHA and Phoenix safety policies, regulations, and restrictions. Must use the provided safety equipment at all times and must immediately report safety violations and unsafe practices.
- Maintain open communication. Must proactively communicate, prepare, and involve coworkers and managers to respond to current issues that affect others’ safety, productivity, and efficiency.
- Must strictly observe all Phoenix’s policies.
- Must follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must pay attention to detail when performing the job.
- Must work well with supervisors, operators, mechanics, and others in the performance of their jobs.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
- Must report for the scheduled work on time and present according to the assigned work schedule.
- Must model professional, honest, respectful, and ethical behavior in all circumstances.
Job Specifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar QHSE role is highly desirable.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is highly desirable.
- Proven track record of successful implementation of safety and environmental programs.
- In-depth understanding of local, state, and federal HSE regulations.
- Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
- Experience inspecting and testing the materials and equipment produced by a company.
- Experience documenting quality assurance activities with internal reporting and audits
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate safety concepts to individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence positive change.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to think critically and develop effective solutions to complex QHSE challenges.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
