Interventional Radiological Technologist assists physicians in interventional procedures and provides diagnostic aid by conducting organ or body scans on patients. Administers and records isotope dosage in accordance with established departmental protocol. Being an Interventional Radiological Technologist observes patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity. Typically requires a bachelor's degree, at least 2 years of experience in radiology and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Additionally, Interventional Radiological Technologist typically reports to a chief technologist or manager. Interventional Radiological Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.   • Job Summary:

    The Special Procedure Technologist is responsible for performing an age-specific patient assessment prior to and during the radiology procedure, preparing the room and the patient for the procedure, and recording the images. The Special Procedure Technologist utilizes radiology equipment accurately, evaluates the image quality, and performs image management. The Special Procedure Technologist provides education and communicates with the patient, family, and other healthcare workers. The Special Procedure Technologist must perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in performing special procedures for diagnosis and treatment of disease.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.

    Responsible for safe handling of equipment and supplies.

    Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations.

    Prepares room with anticipated equipment, supplies and instruments.

    Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

    Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.

    Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

    Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use supplies, catheters, balloons and stents .

    Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations.

    Demonstrates knowledge and ability to use Inflation, Thrombectomy, and embolization and laser devices.

    Possesses and utilizes aseptic technique during invasive procedures.

    Assists in maintaining images, records and reports.

    Helps with the transportation of patients to and from the Radiology Department.

    Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.

    Participates in a call rotation according to schedule after hours, weekends and holidays.

    Interacts professionally with Physicians, co-workers, Patients and families.

    Assist in identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement in supply management, labor costs and/or patient care.

    Contribute to the department's success through effective collaboration, active support of organizational initiatives and achievement of personal and organizational goals.

    Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.

    Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

    Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.

    Professional Requirements:

    Adheres to dress code.

    Completes annual educational requirements.

    Maintains regulatory requirements.

    Wears identification while on duty.

    Maintains confidentiality at all times.

    Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.

    Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

    Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

    Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

    Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards

    Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.

    Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.

    Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.

    Education/Experience Requirements:

    High School graduate; BS degree preferred.

    Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology

    Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

    Current State of Montana License for Radiologic Technology required.

    Current BCLS certification.

    Certification in area of specialty preferred.
