    Frequently Asked Questions:

What does an Investment Analyst’s day-to-day look like?

Although our work is extremely varied, a hypothetical day might consist of the following:

After reviewing your emails and working on an investment memo, you and three other team members meet a prospective real estate manager targeting apartments and industrial properties across the Sunbelt region of the US. You ask questions about their “secret sauce” and overall market dynamics during the meeting and afterwards debrief with the other Foundation team members about the merits and considerations of the investment strategy. Afterwards, you prep for an Annual General Meeting that you will attend the following week for a private equity technology firm that the Foundation has invested with. You then meet with the public equity portfolio manager to discuss creating a new report that will be used monthly to better understand the types of risks that our underlying funds are taking. Finally, you finish your day with a meeting alongside other investment team members with an existing private credit manager that lends to fintech companies.

What does the Foundation’s professional development consist of?

In addition to a structured progression of responsibility as a part of the A-Team, Investment Analyst have various opportunities for professional development. For example, prior Analysts have traveled to New York City for several days to meet and learn from various portfolio managers. Additionally, Analysts have traveled to San Francisco to learn in a structured format from other peers about best practices related to investment due diligence. The Investment Analyst will also be encouraged and sponsored to study for exams like the CFA and the CAIA.

After the three-year program, what are potential exit opportunities?

The most straightforward exit is to invest at another allocator. Examples of other allocators include other endowment and foundations, pension plans, single/multi-family offices, and healthcare systems. Other exits can include startups, management consulting, large financial services firms, and direct investing (i.e., real estate, private equity, etc.) Because of the breadth of work you accomplish while at the Foundation, the skills you gain are easily transferable to other roles.
