Old North State Trust is a Greensboro, NC based financial services firm specializing in investment, trust and estate services and we are seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Portfolio Manager.
The Associate Portfolio Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the activities of a portfolio management team within an investment firm or financial institution. This person works with portfolio manager(s) and operations staff to perform a variety of duties to support the investment team. They serve as a portfolio manager’s primary point of contact with investment operations, trust officers, compliance, and relationship managers; they develop & lead practice management routines to promote efficient and effective practices and support the teams in overall asset management strategy.
As an Assistant Portfolio Manager, you will:
Account Maintenance and Administrative Support:
- Assist in the onboarding of new clients/assets to ensure a smooth transition and understanding of their financial objectives.
- Update policies/procedures used as a guideline for performing monthly tasks
- Review and code incoming and existing asset holdings to ensure compliance with regulatory reporting.
- Update monthly Trust Investment Committee (TIC) databases using Bloomberg/Morningstar queries.
- Maintain and update, as necessary, Investment Policy Statement (IPS) database.
- Create and update monthly extract used for new asset setup classifications and industry/sector performance tracking.
- Assist with operational trade date/settlement date file imports, dividend posting, review custody bridge
- Monitor assets for voluntary and mandatory corporate actions and adjustment of positions across portfolios (i.e., Stock splits, tender offers, name/cusip changes, mergers & acquisitions, spin-offs etc…)
Compliance and Regulation:
- Assist and provide solutions for compliance of periodic investment account regulatory reviews
- Stay informed of relevant financial regulations and ensure portfolio management activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements for periodic account reviews.
- Update and submit quarterly Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) 13F reporting requirements for institutional investment managers
- Contribute to the development and implementation of compliance policies and procedures by providing necessary data/ad hoc reporting during audit periods.
Investment Strategy & Support:
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of investment portfolios based on client objectives, risk tolerance, and market conditions.
- Maintain and update model investment portfolios used for trading/rebalancing
- Collaborate with senior investment personnel/Trust Officers to develop and implement investment strategies.
- Create hypothetical investment proposals used for investing or raising cash.
- Update portfolio management software used to analyze performance monitoring and rebalancing decisions.
- Provide input on asset allocation decisions.
Portfolio Management Research & Analysis:
- Assist in the day-to-day monitoring of investment portfolios, including asset allocation, out of balance accounts, trade execution, and rebalancing.
- Assist in conducting financial market research and analysis to identify investment opportunities.
- Monitor market trends, economic indicators, and financial news to make informed investment decisions.
- Collaborate with internal/external clients to implement investment strategies based on client goals and risk tolerance.
- Implement risk management strategies to safeguard client portfolios against market volatility.
Client & Team Interaction:
- Communicate with clients and address client inquiries by providing relevant information.
- Assist in preparing client reports and presentations on portfolio change strategies.
- Interact with other team members, including portfolio managers, relationship managers, trust officers, trust administrators and senior management team to provide comprehensive client solutions.
- Participate and contribute to various internal committee meetings as needed.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field.
- 1-2 years of private asset management experience or trust investments/operations
- Excellent financial, mathematical and statistical skills; can work with complex databases and/or quantitative tools.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate well, verbally and in writing, with clients, partners and internal stakeholders.
- Software experience: Microsoft Office (Superb Excel skills is a must), Bloomberg, Factset, Black Diamond, Greenhill, Morningstar, FI360, InfoVisa, Ndex, Kwanti
