    General Function

    Patient Accounts Team members are responsible for processing of patient accounts.

    Major Responsibilities

    • Submitting of bills
    • Posting of payments
    • Review of explanation of benefits
    • Resubmission of corrected claims
    • Follow up on accounts via correspondence with patients or insurance
    • Rebilling to correct payer source if necessary
    • Refunding of overpayments
    • Appeals
    • Tracking and obtaining PCS for dialysis patients
    • Communication to other team members of any changes in billing procedures related to specific insurance assignment
    • Answering phones and written correspondence
    • Documentation on accounts
    • Follow HIPAA policies and procedures
    • Meet deadlines set by payer
    • Referral of accounts for outside collection review
    • Review trip sheets for necessary documentation (on a daily basis)
    • Enter demographic information
    • Enter charges rendered using appropriate HCPCS code
    • Enter correct ICD10 diagnosis code for each trip
    • Obtain and verify insurance information when necessary including contacting facilities dispatched to or from
    • Assure information correct and complete prior to “verifying”
    • Refer patterns of inconsistency and errors on trip sheets (i.e. shoddy documentation, missing demographics, missing PCS, etc) to appropriate supervisor
    • Provide necessary documentation when obtained to facilitate collection procedures
    • Track missing paperwork and follow up

    Interactions

    This position requires daily interaction with other team members as well as insurance organizations, patients, and families.

    Qualifications

    Requires strong computer and telephone skills. Also calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with insurance organizations and other stakeholders.
