The Kellogg Institute seeks a dynamic and creative individual to manage its program of institutional relationships and metrics and to contribute to the next phase of growth and development of its research and educational programs. The Institutional Relations and Metrics Program Manager plays an integral role in the development and management of key existing and new institutional relationships, coordinating and leading a range of communications, activities, and special projects that support the Institute's goals and objectives. The Program Manager further plays a critical role in the compilation of Institute measures of success and the preparation of metrics for a range of needs, including annual and periodic institutional reporting.
The Kellogg Institute is an international research institute that promotes rigorous interdisciplinary, policy- and practice-relevant research on critical global challenges, with a particular focus on democracy and human development in Latin America and Africa. The Institute includes more than 120 Notre Dame faculty fellows from 21 disciplines and has welcomed over 400 visiting scholars from more than 40 nations and 200 institutions since 1983. It also includes vibrant, competitive undergraduate research programs that support international research experiences as well as experiential learning programs for undergraduates. It is the home to numerous interdisciplinary research initiatives, including policy and practice labs, research clusters, working groups, and the Ford Program for Human Development Studies and Solidarity. The Institute invests annually over $200,000 in doctoral fellowships, grants, and professionalization and more than $400,000 in faculty grants.Up to one remote day per week may be approved for this position, under existing Keough School policy.
The major responsibilities of the Program Manager fall into four main areas:
Stewardship and Management of Existing Donor Relations
The Institutional Relations and Metrics Program Manager plays a critical role in communicating with existing donors and ensuring that means for communications with this important group are timely and accurate. Related duties will include:
- drafting and tracking stewardship materials and their delivery to donors, especially in response to new benefactions;
- compiling annual stewardship reports, including the Institute's annual reporting on the use of endowed funding for the Office of Development;
- in consultation with the Director and the Executive Director, coordinating with the Academic Advancement Director (AAD) in the Keough School of Global Affairs Dean's Office on stewardship efforts with existing donors to ensure full cooperation and communication;
- developing a structure of regularized outreach and communication to existing as well as potential benefactors;
- updating and maintaining the Institute's records on existing donors, ensuring that accurate and timely documentation on communication efforts is completed each semester; and
- in collaboration with the Institute's Data Manager, contributing to the Institute's donor database, including the recording and tracking of donor-related records, Institute outreach, and follow-up activities, and ensuring the accuracy of these records.
Liaison to the Kellogg Institute Advisory Board
This position also serves in a critical liaison role with the Kellogg Advisory Board, aiding the Institute's leadership to develop and execute effective strategies for Advisory Board engagement and productivity. In this role, the duties of the Institutional Relations and Metrics Program Manager include:
- serving as a chief point of contact with members of the Advisory Board, particularly with respect to communications about the Board's annual meeting and responding to ad hoc inquiries from individual members, as needed, throughout the year;
- working with Institute leadership to develop and execute a strategy for Advisory Board engagement, including drafting and facilitating regular communications to board members, identifying strategic opportunities for deepening board member engagement in relevant research and program areas and, as needed, supporting the Institute's exploration of new benefaction opportunities for Board members;
- in consultation with Institute leadership, developing the annual calendar of Advisory Board communications, events, visits by individual members, and related events and programming;
- serving as the principal project manager for the Institute's annual Advisory Board meeting content (may include one or two Advisory Board meetings annually) and relevant materials, and coordinating with the Events Program Manager on all necessary logistics for these meetings;
- serving as the principal project manager for Advisory Board meeting follow up activities, including necessary debriefing or project meetings for the completion of tasks generated by the Advisory Board; and
- serving as overall operational liaison for all Advisory Board committees, coordinating administrative staff liaisons for committee meetings and activities, and ensuring that follow up reporting and activities are completed by the Board's various committees and archived/disseminated.
Management of Institutional Metrics
The Program Manager is also charged with playing a key collaborative role in the management and use of Institute metrics and measures of success in support of new growth and emerging opportunities. This role includes the following:
- in consultation with the Institute's Director and Executive Director and in support of Institute reporting (external reviews, program development initiatives, strategic planning, Keough School annual reporting, etc.), identify annual and longitudinal needs and strategies for institutional metrics;
- collaborating with the Institute's Data Manager on the collection and tracking of Institute metrics;
- coordinating with the Institute's Communications Manager and Communications Team on effective strategies for articulating, presenting, and disseminating key metrics to meet annual, periodic, and ad hoc needs and requests;
- assisting the Executive Director with the dissemination of key metrics to various University units and Institute constituencies in a range of means, including publications, specialty communications, internal reporting, websites, external outreach, and
- aiding the Executive Director in developing an annual action plan, based on the review and assessment of the Institute's annual metrics, and ensuring the implementation of the annual action plan.
Development of New Donor Opportunities
The Institutional Relations and Metrics Program Manager also assists with the cultivation of new donor opportunities, including the following responsibilities:
- in consultation with the Executive Director and, in response to various needs from Institute leadership, conducting exploratory research and benchmarking, preparing documentation and briefings, coordinating and participating in meetings with stakeholders and collaborators, and serving as a liaison with University Development staff and the offices of Foundation and Corporate Relations;
- in collaboration with the Director and the Executive Director, compiling donor profiles for Institute initiatives and funding priorities (i.e., the Institute's major research initiatives, including research clusters and policy and practice labs);
- in consultation with the Director, Executive Director, and Keough School AAD, assisting with the development of strategies for engaging potential benefactors with Institute initiatives/funding priorities and tracking these efforts; and
- in consultation with the Director, Executive Director, and Keough School AAD, conducting appropriate outreach to University fundraisers regarding upcoming programming, potential donor opportunities, and effective strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in a related field
- 5-8 years of transferable experience, preferably in a higher education or other high-performance environment.
Ideal candidates will possess applicable project management experience, exceptional interpersonal skills, a history of success with a range of individuals from various backgrounds and ranks, and exceptional communication (written and oral) and project management skills. Additional expected qualities and skills include a high level of attention to detail, ethical values, and initiative to work with a range of staff to achieve program and project goals.
Because of the dynamic nature of program growth and development, an ability to think and plan strategically and to work with changing needs and demands is a necessity. Due to the sensitive nature of many responsibilities in this position, an understanding of how best to maintain the security and confidentiality of information is required, as well as the proper dissemination and communication of timely details. Due to the collaborative nature of the responsibilities and processes associated with this position, an ability and history of fostering a strong sense of teamwork is highly valued.
