Job Description – Boat Builder
Description:
Derecktor Shipyard in Mamaroneck, NY is seeking an experienced boat builder to join our team. The boat builder produces high quality work in composite and wooden new construction, restoration, and refit projects. The right candidate will be a diligent craftsperson who has a great work ethic, strong teamwork qualities, and a high level of pride in their workmanship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The boat builder is responsible for building, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, and other items using different types of materials including wood and composite. Candidates will have experience in composite and wooden boat construction and/ or restoration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge and experience of wood, fiberglass, and metal boat building
- Excellent understanding of carpentry technique, materials, and methods of installation and construction.
- Exceptional woodworking skills
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments, hand tools, and power tools
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Planning and problem solving as part of a team and individually
- Engage in professional interactions with Management, Project Managers and Architects as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a boat builder
- Adherence to an excellent level of quality always.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
- Reliable and punctual
Minimum Education:
Minimum 5 years' experience in shipyards with shipbuilding production or ship repair businesses with manufacturing of wooden and composite vessels. Recent Boat Building and Design School graduates are encouraged to apply.
Work Environment Summary:
Applicant may be subject to environmental conditions such as cold, heat, exposure to noise, hazards, and confined spaces/close quarters. Applicant must be able to access all areas of the shipyard and company property including docks in all types of weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, use hands or fingers, talk, hear, see with close vision, and access confined spaces.
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
· Must have the ability to move easily between buildings, ascend/descend ladders and work outdoors in shipyards/marinas in all kinds of weather.
