This position involves varied work of moderate responsibility interpretating and translating information to and from Spanish speaking clients both verbally and in written form. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through observation and periodic conferences. This position works with social workers, caseworkers, and others who serve monolingual Spanish speaking clients or Spanish speaking clients with limited English proficiency.
Interprets in a wide variety of settings to include home visits, office visits, and team meetings for child and adult protective services.
Receives telephone calls from Spanish speaking clients and schedules appointments, interprets questions from clients to appropriate staff member and relays answers back to the client.
Contacts other agencies or providers to assist the client in obtaining other services and/or to schedule an appointment.
Regularly looks up information in the case management system NCFAST, edits and adds information in NCFAST, and uploads documents to NCFAST as appropriate for all economic services programs in support of eligibility functions.
Translates written materials from English to Spanish and vice versa to assist both the client and staff in obtaining information in an understandable form.
Requires proficiency in verbal and written language skills, both in English and Spanish; ability to communicate effectively with individuals of various socioeconomic and educational backgrounds; working knowledge of various computer software packages and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum qualifications include high school diploma and one year of experience in interpretation and translation using social work, economic services, and/or related terminology, and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office. One semester in medical interpretation and medical terminology and certification as an interpreter/translator for Spanish and English preferred; a Bachelor’s Degree in Language Arts with a concentration in Spanish and English preferred. Degree/Coursework must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
Starting Salary $37,200 - $40,900 (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits package available.
