Associate Extension Administrator

  • The Associate Extension Administrator (AEA) is responsible for managing Extension programs and services for the CSU Land-Grant Program. The AEA will help lead the development of long-term strategies to enhance the CSU’s Land-grant extension programs and services. The AEA will oversee the four signature areas of Extension: a) Agricultural and Natural Resources, b) 4- H and Youth Development, c) Family and Consumer Sciences, and d) Community and Economic Development. The AEA will also manage CSU’s Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, Renewable Resources Extension Act and other ancillary Extension programs. The AEA will collaborate with Land-grant Program in collaboration with the state-wide research and extension efforts. The AEA is an integral member of the Land Grant leadership team and reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering, Science, Technology and Agriculture (CESTA) and the 1890 Land-Grant Director.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Provides leadership to Extension and Educational Outreach staff in overall program design, development, and delivery.
    • General supervision of extension and outreach program staff by working with Program Leaders which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
    • Provide leadership to Program Leaders in working with county staff and colleagues at The Ohio State University in delivery of this program.
    • Prepares reports and documentation to the US Department of Agriculture-National Institute of Food and Agriculture and the University as required.
    • Serves on local, state, and national extension committees, task forces and university committees as requested.
    • Maintains knowledge of client needs based on data analysis.
    • Keeps abreast of current trends affecting Extension and keeps the Dean and Director advised as appropriate.
    • Assist in the development of CSU’s Plan of Work
    • Develop the POW in collaboration with Associate Research Director in accordance with the focus areas of state and national concerns.
    • Assists in budget preparation and fiscal management.
    • Successfully interacts with campus administrators, faculty, students, staff, and the public.
    • Works with the Central State University Land Grant Advisory Council and The Ohio State University Extension Service to prevent duplication of efforts and maximize use of available resources.
    • Builds alliances with businesses, and state government agencies, community-based organizations, and others at the local and state level.
    • Develop an Extension Advisory Council to identify stakeholder needs for programming and resource needs.
    • Seeks input and support from external organizations such as commodity groups, agriculture stakeholders, and industry stakeholders; and
    • Other job-related duties and responsibilities as required.
    Minimum Qualifications
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge and experience in conducting and administering Extension programs.
    • Knowledge of Extension program development process, evaluation, and reporting.
    • Strong Leadership, Problem-solving and Crisis Management abilities.
    • Advanced knowledge and experience in developing strong organizational relationships.
    • Knowledge of management practices.
    • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
    • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software applications.
    • Knowledge of University and U.S. Department of Agriculture policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge and experience in working with limited resource and minority groups.
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
    • Employee development and performance management skills.
    • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
    • Demonstrated ability to embrace rapid technological changes including use of distance education.
    • Demonstrated experience in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • A master’s degree with at least 10 years’ experience in Extension administration
    • Ten years experience in Higher Education environments
    • Must have successfully supervised a cadre of staff. Knowledge of Extension and outreach programs with a commitment to the broad mission of a Land-grant university
    Preferred Qualifications
    • A Ph.D. degree in Agriculture, or related Agricultural fields including Family and Consumer Sciences, Extension Education, Community and Economic Development, and Youth Development, Economics.
    • Experience at an 1890 Land Grant Institution
