    Description

    THE POSITION:

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Marketing and Community Relations Specialist who will report to the Director of Communications at New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC), and work with its broadband partner, Conexon.

The primary responsibility for this role will be to oversee a community-focused marketing, education, and outreach program for New Hampshire Broadband LLC (the for-profit subsidiary of NHEC). The goal of this role is to increase awareness, preference, and willingness to adopt NH Broadband by both prospective residential and commercial members/customers.

Individuals with strong communications and marketing experience, particularly in driving adoption of a new service, as well as a deep understanding of rural communities (especially in northern New England) will thrive in this role.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Marketing and Promotion

    • Create and execute marketing campaigns with a community-focus to promote high-speed internet services from NH Broadband as that service becomes available in the next 3-5 years.
    • Work with NHEC’s Communication Department and Conexon on campaign development, coordination, and execution.
    • Utilize various channels—including outdoor, community space, household, and other grassroot channels—to increase awareness and drive adoption of broadband services.

    Community Engagement

    • Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage with rural communities in New Hampshire.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, community leaders, and residents to understand their unique needs.
    • Organize events, presentations, meetings, and passive displays that demonstrate the value of broadband service, especially 1 Gb and 2Gb.
    • Identify and engage residential and commercial advocates of broadband.

    Education and Training

    • Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate communities about the advantages of high-speed internet.
    • Demonstrate digital applications and tools that rely on broadband and can enhance daily life, commerce, and economic development.

    Market Research

    • Stay informed about industry trends, competitors, and technological advancements.
    • Analyze the broadband landscape in New Hampshire to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.

    Reporting and Analysis

    • Track and report on key performance indicators related to community engagement and broadband adoption.
    • Provide regular updates to the leadership team on progress, challenges, and opportunities.

    THE PERSON:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or related field preferred. Five (5) plus years’ relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
    • Demonstrated ability to conceive and executive effective, grassroots campaigns that lead to adoption or conversion.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven ability to develop and execute successful marketing campaigns.
    • Familiarity with applications and services that rely on high-speed internet.
    • Demonstrated experience in community relations.
    • Experience in creating educational, outreach, and promotional events.
    • While knowledge of broadband services is not required, demonstrated ability to learn a new industry or service is strongly preferred.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Some day-to-day travel within the utility system required. Extra hours when necessary, during evenings and weekends.
    • This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment dependent upon management approval and workload requirements. Remote work part time is available with requirement of a minimum of 16 hours per week on site at the NHEC office building.
    • Assistance with power restoration efforts required. If necessary, during regular business hours employees will be assigned functions to support power restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties. In addition, such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Review of applications will begin on February 27, 2024, and will continue until the position has been filled, or otherwise closed. Please be prepared to provide a resume and cover letter to complete your application. Any application not containing a resume and cover letter will be considered incomplete.

    COMPENSATION:

NHEC views compensation in a holistic and transparent manner. We are committed to providing our employees with work-life balance, generous time off, comprehensive health and retirement benefits, and additional programs that enhance our employees and members lives. The salary range for this role is targeted at $90,000 - 100,000.

    THE ORGANIZATION:

Headquartered in Plymouth, New Hampshire, NHEC is the largest member-owned electric cooperative in New England, providing electric utility service to consumers and businesses in 115 communities throughout New Hampshire. There are 220 employees serving our members, which is at the heart of everything we do and every decision we make, and our mission is to provide our members access to affordable, reliable electric service options that support and simplify their lives. The electric utility industry is currently undergoing enormous change as consumers look for new ways to manage energy costs through renewable energy, distributed energy resources such as solar arrays and battery storage, energy efficiency, electric vehicles, and energy-related apps on smart devices.

There is much to be proud of in our existing organization, and a genuine enthusiasm for what the future holds. It is an environment in which individual leadership and initiative are highly valued and encouraged, and success is viewed as a shared accomplishment to be celebrated by all. Ensuring our members have the energy they need, the information they want, and a partner they can trust is what makes us different.
