Job Description
The Employee Relations and Organizational Development Specialist is a mid-level position that actively supports campus by providing a broad range of support including but not limited to: customer service and administrative support for employee relations and organizational development team, employee consultation, training, conflict resolution, complaint investigation, process guidance, and the preparation and delivery of employee relations correspondence, summary reports, and recommendations. Interacts with all levels of leadership and employees regarding legal compliance, discipline, terminations, and negotiated separations. Works with a great deal of independent discretion in decision-making and execution of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides HR employee relations support services to the campus community focused on support for employees, guidance for managers, and compliance with state and federal laws.
- In collaboration with HR leadership, provides guidance to supervisors and employees on employee relations topics, such as HR procedures, performance management, standards of conduct, interpersonal conflict, sensitive HR matters, corrective and disciplinary actions, and related matters to resolve employer/employee issues.
- Develops templates, maintains documentation, creates records and inputs data into Maxient, Box, Google Docs, and personnel files.
- Advises employees and supervisors regarding HR policies and procedures.
- Facilitates problem solving processes.
- Collaborates with the HR organizational development team to identify supervisor and employee learning needs, creating, modifying, and delivering training content on related topics.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements for day-to-day employee management, minimizing HR legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Collaborates with supervisors and employees to positively enhance work relationships, morale, strengths-based culture, engagement, productivity, and retention.
- Conduct individual and/or group facilitation's to foster effective communication and healthy workplace relationships among employees and management.
- Conduct coaching or informal mediation with employees or supervisors to enhance employee performance, satisfaction, and career development or resolve interpersonal conflict.
- Partners with the Organizational Development team to develop and enhance curriculum for employee and management groups in areas such as leadership development, supervisory training, respectful workplace, employee engagement, change management, teamwork, collaboration, and performance management.
- Assists with complex employee relations issues and ensures effective OD interventions for employees and teams.
- Coordinates completion of effective, thorough, and objective workplace investigations; coordinates with HR leadership, the Office of General Counsel, and the Title IX Office when necessary.
- Offers customer support for employee relations intake and provides general administrative assistance in matters related to employee relations.
- Performs all other related duties and HR special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited
college or university plus 2 years of related experience; or 10 years of
related experience with employee relations and/or training and organizational
development functions.
- Ability to understand, interpret, communicate, and
apply appropriate sections of applicable employment-related laws, guidelines,
regulations, and policies.
- Functional knowledge of employment related
regulations such as the Family Medical Leave Act, Workers Compensation, the
Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Title IX and Title
VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other state and federal regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
with colleagues and management.
- Demonstrated ability to use reason, active
listening, problem solving skills, and de-escalation skills to manage
difficult and emotional situations.
- Ability to present information in a clear,
consistent and concise manner.
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive HR
situations ethically with integrity and confidentiality/privacy.
- Excellent
interpersonal and customer service and problem resolution skills.
- Excellent
organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with word
processing, spreadsheet, email, and related office software with the ability
to utilize related HR Information Systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years of directly related
HR experience in an employee relations role.
- Higher education Human Resources
experience.
- Professional certification in Human Resources, Employee Relations,
or Mediation.
Additional Information

will be given to applications received prior to April 1, 2024. Salary will be between $48,000 - $55,000 per year,
commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include comprehensive
