Laboratory Assistant performs research activities in a laboratory environment to aid in the planning, designing, and conducting of experiments. Collects, prepares, and tests samples and records measurements or observations. Being a Laboratory Assistant prepares reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order. Additionally, Laboratory Assistant assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Laboratory Assistant work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Laboratory Assistant typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Medical Laboratory Scientist: For MT/MLS a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or related field. MT/MLS, college or university in a Medical Laboratory. Documentation of education must satisfy current federal, state or accreditation regulations relating to the classification of Medical Technologist. Must have knowledge of laboratory medicine and basic laboratory instrumentation, hospital and laboratory regulations, policies and procedures. Minimum of one year experience in all areas of a Clinical Laboratory setting. Documented completion of internship in a nationally accredited school of Medical Technology may be substituted for the required one year experience. Must have a certificate (ASCP, AMT) of MT or MLS registration from a nationally recognized organization of laboratory medicine.
