Laboratory Assistant performs research activities in a laboratory environment to aid in the planning, designing, and conducting of experiments. Collects, prepares, and tests samples and records measurements or observations. Being a Laboratory Assistant prepares reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order. Additionally, Laboratory Assistant assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager.     South Dakota State University (SDSU) is currently seeking two Laboratory Program Assistants with strong attention to detail and good organizational skills to join our Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Lab (ADRDL). The South Dakota Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Laboratory is a full service, AAVLD accredited diagnostic laboratory that conducts approximately 500,000 veterinary diagnostic tests a year.
    Job Responsibilities: To provide laboratory support for the specimen receiving and all diagnostic sections at the ADRDL. The fundamental purpose of this position is to assist program professionals while following established SOP’s to track and accession animal samples in support of pathology and ante-mortem testing at ADRDL; decide how best to manage, track, and reflect changes in information in support of the sample submission process; and manage technical activities related to organization of sample submissions, reporting and billing. In performing these duties, this position performs activities that require understanding of ADRDL invoicing procedures. In addition, this position will also answer the phone and direct calls, distribute mail and answer emails.
