    Position Overview:

    The Laboratory Outpatient Staffing Coordinator is responsible for departmental staffing levels relating to personnel deployment and operational efficacy for outpatients laboratory locations. This position assists the Outpatient Supervisor with coordination of resources primarily laboratory assistant phlebotomists and courier, client services, and nursing home/home draw services as needed. Duties to include developing and implementing staff solutions, adherence to company guidelines and maintaining laboratory's operational needs. Responsible for new staffing schedule coordination, educational training competencies and overall best practices. Provides laboratory support with phlebotomy services when necessary and assistance with transportation in courier services or helping client services with telephone communication. Responsible for overall outpatient team support and other outreach administrative support tasks as assigned.


    Job Responsibilities include:

    • Responsible for staffing level management, updating and daily facilitator of personnel distribution as needed. Responsible for adding and removing assigned residential locations and patients to reports and systems utilized by Outpatient Team.
    • Responsible for processing and managing all staffing request for time off, scheduling updates and timekeeping documentation.
    • Responsible for prioritizing outpatient assignments and ability to multi-task, organize work flow and real time decision making abilities.
    • Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab policies and hospital procedures, HIPPA standards and workplace safety.
    • Responsible for tracking and trend reporting to leadership on critical components of staffing operations.
    • Responsible for training assistance and support of all outpatient education relative to each position.
    • Coordinating patient orders and receiving orders placed, both electronically and manually , in the health system and Laboratory information systems (HIS and LIS).
    • Performs registration and requisitions as well as proper use of company software: Meditech, Accureg, Cayuga Connect and all programs utilized by the laboratory.
    • Knowledge of laboratory tests, proper specimen containers, specimens and paperwork requirements.
    • Ability to work under pressure in a composed, efficient manner with members of the team in a professional and courteous manner.
    • Supports operations with best practices for batching and specimen courier pick up. Performs proper venipuncture and post care of phlebotomy site along with labeling each specimen for 2 forms of ID without errors.
    • Ability to perform laboratory courier responsibilities with specimen pick-ups and lab deliveries as required.
    • Is flexible and willing to assume other appropriate responsibilities for outpatient or outreach department not noted above.



    Minimum Qualifications:


    Education - High School Diploma or equivalent

    External - Vocational phlebotomy (or related) course/program, or 1 year working phlebotomy experience.

    Experience - Minimum of a year of laboratory experience required. Previous experience with Meditech and Atlas/Sunquest programs preferred. Knowledge and experience in medical terminology, procedures, diagnosis, health insurance, customer service and computer programs desired.

    Licensure - Valid New York State driver's license.

    Physical Requirements - Repetitive use of hands and fingers (ie: use of computer keyboard). May require use of lifting and carrying light loads (up to 10 pounds). Sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.
