GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to Laboratory Director or Manager, coordinates daily operation of large
or technically complex laboratory areas. Coordinates specimen processing,
testing, and reporting to ensure standard work methods and consistent quality.
Oversees employee assignments, competency, and record keeping. Leads daily
management of quality and deviation management. Coordinates technical
projects such as instrument evaluation and method validation.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates daily operations of the laboratory including scheduling
employees and daily work assignments across large or technically
complex sections of the lab. Ensures appropriate specimen accessioning,
testing, and reporting to meet service standards.
2. Assists other laboratory staff and leaders to meet or exceed customer
expectations. This often involves the use of quality management
techniques to gather data and improve processes.
3. Compiles and maintains employee records including attendance, work
assignments, performance records, proficiency testing, and competency
records as required by accrediting agencies.
4. Coordinates activities and maintains records of preventive maintenance
programs.
5. Coordinates the validation of new methods, instruments and software as
required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. Minimum of an accredited Bachelor's Degree Program in chemical, physical
or biologic science, medical technology or clinical laboratory science required
2. Requires a demonstrated record of three to five years of progressive
responsibility
3. Demonstrated leadership skills, technical proficiency and theoretical
knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions and to coordinate the
quality and volume of work
4. Certification at the technologist level from a nationally recognized national agency
such as, ASCP, NCA, ASM, AABB, ACS or HEW is preferred
