Position: Laboratory Assistant III
Job description:
A Laboratory Assistant III is responsible for performing routine and specialized duties to support the organization with emphasis in laboratory support. Routine duties to support the laboratory include equipment maintenance, temperature monitoring, sample preparation and slide scanning. Specialized duties to support the laboratory include tissue processing, embedding, sectioning and staining. The Laboratory Assistant III must demonstrate the ability to work independently.
Job duties:
· Receive and inventory incoming packages to include client samples and routine laboratory supplies.
· Maintain accurate inventory records of all samples stored at Goldfinch Laboratory.
· Perform all maintenance activities for equipment to include documenting required temperatures.
· Create slide labels for IHC and ISH staining.
· Prepare bulk reagents in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Prepare routine reagents for H&E, special stains and IHC staining.
· Perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and applicable staining.
· Assist with equipment and software validations.
· Ensure cleanliness of all laboratory equipment and work areas.
· Performs and monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and requests replacements as required.
· Maintain accurate project documentation, including computerized documentation, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
· Package and ship materials to offsite locations.
· File all blocks and slides according to the standard operating procedures.
· Performs slide scanning.
· Follow and review standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Ensure all materials and reagents are stored in appropriate conditions and are not expired.
· Accepts accountability and responsibility for actions and own behavior.
· Organizes work for effective utilization of time.
· Other duties, as assigned by manager.
Qualifications:
1. Associates degree with a minimum of two to six (2 – 6) years’ experience
2. Spatial ability to perceive three-dimensional and geometric relationships when embedding and cutting paraffin blocks.
3. Finger dexterity to manipulate the micro-thin tissue sections and to mount onto microscope slides.
4. Color discrimination to verify diagnostic quality of staining processes in order that essential features of tissue sections can be properly defined.
