Laboratory Services Director manages the daily activities of the laboratory. Develops laboratory policies and procedures and issues updates as needed. Being a Laboratory Services Director plans and designs experiments. Estimates the time and resources needed to complete projects. Additionally, Laboratory Services Director orders and inspects materials and equipment and maintains detailed and accurate inventory of lab supplies. Requires a master's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Laboratory Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Laboratory Services Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Manages the operations and staff: Pathology and Med-Tech Education
Education:
1) Bachelor’s degree required. May have an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in lieu of specific education.2) Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or equivalent preparation preferred.
Experience:
1) 5 years of laboratory experience.2) 5 years of leadership experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1) Demonstrated leadership and management skills.2) Demonstrated ability to work under stressful situations.3) Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.4) Effectively functions as a liaison among staff, physicians, medical center administration, and ancillary departments. 5) Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude constantly. 6) Consistently demonstrates maturity for accountability of job performance.7) Conducts business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Mount Nittany Medical Center.8) Knowledge of human resource laws and regulations as they relate to the management of staff.
License/Certification/Registration:
1) Certified MLS (ASCP), MLS (AMT) or have equivalent certification preferred.
