DESCRIPTION

CRA’s Shreveport, Louisiana office seeks a Laboratory Director, preferably with regional (Southeast and South Central) experience. The Laboratory Director is responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring all laboratory processing and analyses. This is a supervisory position, and requires flexible and efficient time management skills and an ability to prioritize workload while supervising laboratory procedures for multiple projects. The minimum education requirement for this position is an undergraduate degree in anthropology with a specialization in archaeology, and it requires at least five years of experience working in an archaeology laboratory, three of which were in a supervisory position. The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of both prehistoric and historic archaeology and related practices and artifacts. The required skill set includes outstanding written and verbal communication skills, excellent personal computer skills, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat and other word processing and spreadsheet programs. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented and logical, and will possess outstanding analytical and observation skills.

The position is a full-time, salaried position with a full benefit package. Salary for this position is between $50,000 and $60,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

• Oversees laboratory technicians during processing and analyses of project collections;
• Under supervision of or with the assistance of the Principal Investigator writes data analyses section of technical reports;
• Under supervision of or with the assistance of the Principal Investigator performs specialized analyses;
• Develops, modifies, and implements lab methods and procedures for processing and analysis of materials;
• Maintains, controls, and monitors field and laboratory equipment;
• Responsible for coordinating with curatorial repositories for the final disposition of artifacts and projects records;
• Responsible for preparing collections for curation and arranging delivery to curatorial facilities;
• Completes any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in anthropology with a specialization in archaeology
• Five years of experience working in an archaeology laboratory, three of which were in a supervisory position
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, excellent personal computer skills, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat and other word processing and spreadsheet programs
