Duties: Supervise a group of direct reports. Supervise the day-to-day delivery of high quality testing services. Monitor the daily productivity and quality of work, allocate resources as required and troubleshoot/escalate problems as necessary. Perform specialized laboratory testing and analyses. Perform quality control analysis on pharmaceutical, dietary supplements, food and beverages, OTC drugs and consumer products by utilizing cGMP/GLP practices. Implement and improve HPLC analytical tests for routine Over-the-Counter pharmaceutical, dietary supplements and food products. Perform GC-MS trace level determination for Phthalates in consumer products. Review and edit SOPs for continuous improvement. Apply client requirements to perform specialized testing, record and analyze data, and prepare written reports by using LIMS system. Provide input into annual budgetary goals, the capital expenditure budget for lab equipment and tactical plans for assigned lab teams. Prepare instructions for test methods, procedures, quality control, and maintenance procedures. Examine test samples, test performance, and provide input regarding issues and/or problems with test and data sheets. Implement tests and procedures requiring selection and adaptation of test equipment and test procedures. Record and analyze data and prepare written reports and procedures. Perform routine tests and procedures utilizing GMP/GLP practices. Prepare reports, perform calculations, and assess proper calibration and standardization of equipment and procedures. Write test methods and SOPs, and review data. Process food and beverage and consumer products according to cGMP practices. Perform dissolution tests on pharmaceutical products based on USP monographs. Access and perform daily maintenance on testing instruments. Supervises 11 chemical technicians. *This position qualifies for UL LLC’s employee referral policy program.*
Education and Experience Required: Master’s degree in chemistry or closely related field and two (2) years of experience as a chemist or related
Special Skills Required: Must have work experience in each of the following: 1) HPLC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, UV-Vis, FTIR, HPLC DAD, HPLC-RI, Karl Fischer titrator, and Dissolution Apparatus; 2) Empower 3, ChemStation, and MassHunter; 3) analytical testing of dietary supplements, OTC drugs, food and beverages, and health and beauty products; 4) GMP/GLP practices experience or ISO accreditation; 5) compendial methods such as USP, AOAC, ASTM, EP, and FCC; and 6) pesticide/aflatoxin analysis.
