    Summary:

    The Laboratory Ancillary Services Supervisor develops, plans, and coordinates the function of the In- Patient Phlebotomy and Specimen processing areas within the Laboratory Department to ensure the effective operations. A key role of this position is to plan, direct, train, and supervise the prioritization and performance of the daily workloads within the patient service area of the laboratory. This includes evaluating Lab Assistant staff to achieve section objectives and maintain high quality services. Schedules lab assistant staff for Specimen Processing, Phlebotomy, Reception and Satellite laboratories, directs, monitors, and controls the operation and productivity of the Laboratories’ collection and processing areas.

    Responsibilities:
    • Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards Caregiver document. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within.

    •  Supervises the daily operation of the areas staffed with Laboratory Assistant personnel to ensure that the patient experience meets set standards. Ensures employees complete tests within established turnaround times, audited regularly to ensure compliance is always met.

    • Schedules the staffing of Specimen Processing, Results, Phlebotomy, Reception and Satellite laboratories in a manner that ensures maximum efficiency, provides cross training, and distributes job knowledge.

    • Will track and maintain patient access standards; coordinate staffing and processes to ensure standards are met.

    • Assess, plans, and provides orientation and continuous training for lab assistants.

    • Interprets laboratory policies to department staff, analyzes and resolves employee problems and initiates plans to motivate staff and achieve goals.

    • Oversees implementation of policies and procedures to assure adherence to Federal and State regulations.

    • Performs duties in Phlebotomy, Specimen Processing and Lab Reception.

    • Ensures employees understand their role and responsibilities in achieving organizational success by establishing and communicating clear expectations

    Education/Licensure/Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.

    • Certification as a Phlebotomist or equivalent (ASCP, NPA, ASCIS), required.

    • Three (3) years of related work experience in a laboratory area of comparable complexity and services, exhibiting extensive and current knowledge of laboratory operations required.

    • Minimum one (1) year of previous supervisory experience required.

    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire required.

    • Advanced coursework in sciences or healthcare-related field required. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Technically competent in all disciplines of the field of medical technology. 

    • Computer proficiency.  

    • Ability to work compatibly with physicians, patients, and other staff.  

    • Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
