    Pay Range

    $113,790 - $141,276 Annually for the 337.1 level

    $137,640 - $170,904 Annually for the 339.2 level

    Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.


    Job Description

    We have an opening for a Supervisor/Technical Contributor at LLNL's Site 300 High Explosive Manufacturing Area located in Tracy, CA. You will be responsible for the organization and cost-effective utilization of the workforce. This responsibility includes scheduling, establishing priorities, analyzing workforce skills for job assignments, solving the group's personnel and technical problems and monitoring ES&H requirements. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) in the Engineering directorate.

    This position will be filled at either level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

    In this role you will

    • Provide innovative manufacturing and machining expertise and hands-on operations through the design, programming, planning, scheduling, and machining of complex to highly complex components based on specifications from engineers and program representatives.
    • Develop original solutions to complex to highly complex manufacturing problems, determining appropriate work methods, and establishing priorities in order to meet programmatic requirements.
    • Provide design, evaluation, review, fabrication, oversight, machining, tooling/fixturing, quality policy implementation, and documentation of various projects, including input for detailed plans, schedules, and budgets for project activities.
    • Initiate, prepare, and participate in design reviews, meetings, and other briefings where concepts are determined, and designs refined.
    • Supervise and provide oversight, technical guidance, and direction to machinists and programmers making frequent decisions using independent discretion and judgement.
    • Provide administrative oversight for machinists, and other matrixed support personnel participating in performance evaluation, peer grouping, and salary management processes.
    • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, technical personnel, facility engineers, facility safety personnel, and machinists both inside and outside the work group on both an individual and team basis in support of the program.
    • Notify and report to the Facility Manager and other laboratory managers, events that have environmental, safety, health, security, or quality significance, and assist in investigation and corrective actions for such events.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Additional job responsibilities, at the 339.2 level

    • Collaborate with engineers/scientists to provide highly advanced expertise in solving highly complex technical, machining and manufacturing problems for various projects, independently leading personnel in assigning tasks and prioritizing work.
    • Make frequent decisions using a high degree of independent discretion and judgement to define project approaches and create and implement original solutions.
    • Define, interpret, design, oversee fabrication planning and machining operations of experimental components and prototypes utilizing highly advanced technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment.

    Qualifications
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Manufacturing Technology, or equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
    • Knowledge of laboratory management structure, work control/safety culture, including experience leading/directing a team or group.
    • Advanced knowledge and experience in complex to highly complex mechanical engineering design, fabrication, and machining, including theory.
    • Experience conducting and/or participating in engineering design reviews.
    • Experience participating in machining operations and programming machine tools, analyzing results, writing reports, and/or making presentations.
    • Experience developing conceptual processes of machining and fabrication of test and prototype components, designing, implementing, tooling and fixtures and experience with the associated machine tools and CNC programming.
    • Experience with project planning, budgeting, and resource planning.
    • Effective interpersonal skills and experience working both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a schedule-driven environment.
    • Advanced written and verbal communications skills with proven ability to present concepts and ideas in a clear and coherent manner for presentation and interaction with other technical staff members as well as ability to provide leadership to a team

    In Addition at the 339.2 Level

    • Highly advanced experience developing conceptual processes of highly complex machining and fabrication of test and prototype components, designing, implementing, tooling and fixtures and experience with the associated machine tools and CNC programming.
    • Extensive experience collaborating with high-level scientists/engineers and/or senior managers at the division and/or department level or equivalent.
    • Highly advanced written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills in multiple technical areas.

    Qualifications We Desire

    • Knowledge and experience with CNC computer systems, Mastercam and CREO.
    • Experience working with High Explosive material.
    • High Explosive Senior Handler Certificate.
    • Experience working with classified materials, documentation, and/or experimental data.

    Site 300

    Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

    Security Clearance

    This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
